Linda Loomis
Linda Loomis, NYPA 1994 Writer of the Year, teaches creative writing and journalism at SUNY Oswego, where she is acting director of the Journalism Program. Her love of reading "everything" has guided her career choices and shaped her writing. After 20 years as a reporter and editor at the Liverpool/Salina Review, she worked as director of communications for Alumni and University Development at Oswego State. She was appointed an assistant professor in the English department after years of part-time teaching. Loomis says the best part of academic life is the time she spends with students discussing theories, ethics and ideas that pertain to their future roles as the story tellers and information sharers in their communities. She earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees in English at Oswego.
Bruce Frassinelli
Bruce Frassinelli is the retired publisher and editor of The Palladium-Times, Oswego County's only daily newspaper. He had been in the communication field for 38 1/2 years, having serving in newspapers, radio, television and cable TV. He also is a member of the board of directors and past chair of Oswego County Savings Bank and will become governor of Rotary District 7150 on July 1, 2001. He has taught on a part-time basis at Oswego State since 1992 and has taught at several colleges and high schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. A series of articles on land abuses in the Pocono Mountains, written by him and a colleague while he served as an editor at The Express, now The Express-Times of Easton, Pa., was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1972.
Eileen Gilligan
Eileen Gilligan is an assistant professor and director of the Center for Community Journalism, which is based at SUNY Oswego. She covered state government and politics in Delaware for the state's two daily newspapers in the early part of her career. After a stint as a coffeehouse owner, she turned to freelance writing and teaching journalism at the college level. As a researcher, she studies the sociology of news or "how reporters do their jobs," with a particular interest in competition and the state of community journalism in the 21st Century. She writes a monthly column for the regional free parenting magazine, "Family Times," and enjoys sharing her ongoing journalistic endeavors with her students. She graduated from Brown University with a B.A. in American cCvilization. Later, she earned an M.A. in communication theory from the University of Delaware and a Ph.D. in Journalism and Mass Communication Research from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
