Program Requirements

Mathematics

Proficiency tests in mathematics are available for purposes of placement and advisement. Students who will need calculus in their studies can take a test in basic algebraic skills to aid in placement.
Mathematics Proficiency Tests
A proficiency test which measures basic algebraic and trigonometric skills is available. Students desiring an indicator of probable success in calculus should take this test. Inquiries for more information should be directed to the Chair of the Department of Mathematics.

Applied Mathematics Major - Arts and Sciences, B.S. Degree

B. Electives12 cr
  • One of the following two sequences:
  • One additional 300- or 400 level mathematics course. Excluded mathematics courses are Mat 304, 306, 307 and 392.
C. Cognate Requirements12 cr
  • Csc 212 - Principles of Programming
  • An advisor approved program of 3 electives in one academic area. The courses should contain significant applications of mathematics. Suggested areas include biology, chemistry, computer science, earth sciences, economics, management science, physics, or statistics.
Note: a C- grade or better must be earned in all 200 level mathematics courses credited to the major.
