Mathematics

Proficiency tests in mathematics are available for purposes of placement and advisement. Students who will need calculus in their studies can take a test in basic algebraic skills to aid in placement.
Mathematics Proficiency Tests
A proficiency test which measures basic algebraic and trigonometric skills is available. Students desiring an indicator of probable success in calculus should take this test. Inquiries for more information should be directed to the Chair of the Department of Mathematics.

Mat 220 - Calculus II
Mat 230 - Matrix Algebra
Mat 240 - Multivariable Calculus
Mat 300 - History of Mathematics
Mat 304 - Mathematical Topics in the Secondary Curriculum*
Mat 330 - Introduction to Algebra
Mat 335 - College Geometry
Mat 347 - Analysis A
Mat 350 - Introduction to Probability Theory

B. Electives3 cr

One of the following two courses:
- Mat 373 - Number Theory
- Mat 454 - Mathematical Statistics B

C. Cognate Requirements4 cr

One of the following three courses:
- Phy 111 - College Physics I
- Che 111 - General Chemistry
- Met 210 , and Met 210L - Meteorology for Science Majors

All students must pass a competency test in 'before calculus' mathematics as part of Mat 304.

Mat 304 is a prerequisite for student teaching. All students must show, by course work or demonstration to an advisor, competence in these technologies: graphing calculator, spreadsheets, general purpose mathematics software (e.g., Maple), and geometry software.
