The Department of Vocational Teacher Preparation provides teacher education programs to prepare individuals to teach their occupational specialty in schools, colleges, industry and other settings where vocational/career and technical education is delivered. Common settings include comprehensive high schools, BOCES' career centers, correctional facilities, community colleges, and training centers in industry.
This program prepares individuals with vocational and technical backgrounds to teach occupational skills in high schools, trade schools, community colleges, agricultural and technical colleges, adult continuing education programs, the armed forces and industry. Five B.S. programs lead to initial New York State Certification to teach agricultural subjects, Business and Marketing subjects education, health career education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Technical Education and Trade Education. While you can enter Business and Marketing Education as a freshman, other programs require an A.A.S. or A.O.S. degree in the technical or trade occupation you wish to teach, or a high school diploma and at least four consecutive years of experience in the field.
