First-Year Select is a program that assists first-year students in maximizing their performance in the classroom while providing an opportunity to bond with fellow first-year students in a supportive environment. Students required to be part of a First-Year Select learning community are also assigned an academic planning counselor through the Office of Learning Services.
Through First-Year Select, students enroll in a block of courses designed for business, sciences, liberal arts, social sciences and education majors. Each block consists of as many as four courses where 19 or fewer students are enrolled. Students spend time with peers in the classroom and outside study groups, plus attend social activities such as plays, concerts and cultural events.
