Note: A grade of C- or better must be earned in all core courses credited toward the major. All majors must pass a piano proficiency test to graduate.
Learning Agreement12 cr
  • Each student, along with a faculty member, will devise a learning agreement containing 12 hours. A minimum of 6 hours must be taken in one of the following areas: Music History and Literature, The Theory of Music, Music Industry, Applied Music, Jazz Studies, Pre-music Therapy.

Note: A grade of C- or better must be earned in all core courses credited toward the minor.
All students minoring in music are urged to participate in one or more of the music department ensembles.
* 1. Music minors may select either Music Western Heritage ( Mus 210 and Mus 211) or Music History Survey ( Mus 310 and Mus 311) for their core requirements.
2. Transfer students with two (2) semesters of approved Music History Survey transfer credit may petition the Music Department for approval to substitute two (2) semesters of Music Literature courses in lieu of the Music History ( Mus 310 and Mus 311) requirements for majors.

Certificate of Specialized Study in Piano


The Music Department offers a Certificate of Specialized Study in Piano. A student wishing to meet the requirements for the Certificate must be a music major. The piano faculty and the Music Department shall review and approve the granting of the Certificate in each instance.
A minimum GPA of 3.0 in music courses, as well as a minimum grade of B in any of the applied courses is required. Specific requirements (beyond those required in the major sequence) are:
1. Mus 319-Piano Literature
2. Mus 435-Piano Pedagogy
3. Two semesters of accompanying
4. Six semesters of any combination of Mus 230, Mus 231, Mus 330, Mus 331, Mus 431 or Mus 531
5. Observation of class piano
