After hearing from Priorities and Planning, consulting with department chairs, and extensively reviewing budget options for the upcoming year, Provost's Council has adopted the following policy related to funding for conference travel in 2009-2010. This policy will apply to regular allocations in OTPS given to units for distribution to faculty and staff at their discretion. It does not apply to funds such as IDAP awards, First Year advisement incentives, IFRs in departments, relevant Foundation accounts, or OIEP funds.
Funds saved on conference travel funding this year will be used to support the costs of instruction for our students. The funds for this travel are coming from division reserves. This policy will be reviewed at the end of 2009-10 to determine whether it needs to be continued for an additional year because of continuing budget constraints.
Requests for funding will be made to deans and directors as appropriate.
1. We will support up to $500 in expenses for tenure-track faculty who are untenured, including those on qualified rank related to tenure-track decisions, to make presentations at conferences or perform in artistic venues.
2. Other faculty may apply to deans for SUNY points for professional development or funds up to $200 to attend conferences within the state. These requests will be honored on a funding available basis.
3. A limited amount of funding may be allocated for attending conferences that will contribute to strategic initiatives for the college or for individual units.
We expect that these difficult budget times and this limitation on conference travel funding will not last forever. If you have questions about this policy, please contact your dean or director. Thank you.
