OSWEGO -- The Oswego Festival Chorus, under the direction of SUNY Oswego music Professor Julie Pretzat, has announced its fall season of concerts and singing opportunities. Rehearsals will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, in Room 41 of Tyler Hall at SUNY Oswego.
The chorus will join with the Oswego College Choir and College-Community Orchestra in two performances of the monumental Ninth Symphony ("The Choral") of Ludwig Van Beethoven. Many singers are needed to help balance the expanded orchestral forces required for this piece.
The work will be performed Nov. 10 at the Fulton Alliance Church and Nov. 11 at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Oswego. Proceeds of the concerts will be donated to the SUNY Oswego music department scholarship funds.
On Dec. 9, the Festival Chorus will join forces with the Syracuse University Brass Ensemble and other college choirs in a "Feast of Carols" featuring an audience-participation carol-sing led by the performing groups. This concert will be held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oswego.
There is a $7 registration fee for participation in the Oswego Festival Chorus. The fee helps defray the cost of publicity, soloists and accompanists. Music is available to borrow or purchase.
Singers of all ranges are needed, organizers said. Those interested in joining are asked to attend the first rehearsal at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, in Room 41 of Tyler Hall at SUNY Oswego. Rehearsals are held every Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Campus parking passes will be available at the first rehearsals.
For more information, call the SUNY Oswego music department at 312-2130.
