LABOR GROUP SUPPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS THROUGH FALL CLASSIC

OSWEGO -- Education is important to members of the New York State Laborers' Employers Cooperation and Education Trust Fund, and they showed it by supporting scholarships at SUNY Oswego through the Oswego State Fall Classic, set for Sept. 11 and 12 on campus and in the community.

"Our union and our contractors understand the importance of a good education to meet the challenges of working in today's world. We support the Presidential Scholars program at Oswego State because it helps deserving young people get the education needed for those challenges," said Dr. James Melius, director of LECET.

"We are grateful for the support of LECET and for their long-term commitment to the students of SUNY Oswego," said college President Deborah F. Stanley.

LECET is one of four Presidential Sponsors, who support the Fall Classic at the highest level of giving. Other Presidential Sponsors are Constellation Energy Group, GE Power Systems and Sithe.

"Their support, along with that of all our loyal sponsors, will help provide the funding that brings the best and brightest students to Oswego," Stanley said.

Since 1996, proceeds of the Fall Classic have been dedicated to the Presidential Scholars program, which has resulted in more student applications and more highly qualified applicants.                      - 2 -

The dedication of Rich Hall as the new home for the School of Business on Sept. 11 will kick off two days of Fall Classic events. Friday recreational activities will offer opportunities for networking in a relaxed atmosphere at the fishing expedition on Lake Ontario, skeet shooting at Pathfinder Fish and Game Club, a golf tournament at Oswego Country Club and Fall Classic finale gathering.

The Fall Classic has generated a grand total in gross sponsorship gifts of $2.6 million since 1990 through the support of sponsors, who choose from eight levels of support. Presidential Sponsors give at the highest level of sponsorship.

For information or to receive a sponsorship booklet, call the Office of Alumni Relations and University Development at 312-3003 or click onto the Fall Classic Web site at www.oswegoalumni.oswego.edu/classic.
