OSWEGO -- Auditions for SUNY Oswego's Waterman Summer Theatre production of "Godspell" will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 5, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, in Room 102 of the college's Tyler Hall.
Callbacks will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 7, as needed, show organizers said.
"Godspell" will be directed by Nancy Fox with choreography by Cheryl Wilkins-Mitchell and under the musical direction of Juan LaManna. The show will run from July 17 to 21 in Tyler Hall's Waterman Theatre.
Those interested in being cast for these roles are asked to prepare a monologue, a funny story and at least one song from the show. There will also be a guided dance audition conducted at the same time. All potential cast members are expected to sing and dance.
Prospective cast members are asked to arrive early and stay through the length of the audition session. Auditions will be conducted in groups.
Five men and five women will be cast. Organizers said actors with comic ability, strong improvisational skills and high energy are sought. Recorder or guitar playing is helpful.
Telling the story of the last seven days of the life of Christ, "Godspell" originally opened off-Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theatre on May 17, 1971. It then moved to the Promenade on Broadway and 76th Street where it ran for 2,124 performances.
The show's "official" Broadway opening took place at the Broadhurst Theatre on June 22, 1976. This production lasted for 527 performances. The 1973 film version featured Victor Garber and David Haskell.
For more information on auditions, call the SUNY Oswego theatre department at 312-2140.
Tickets for "Godspell" will go on sale Monday, June 17, at the Tyler box office.
