NEW FACULTY MEMBER TO PRESENT VIOLIN RECITAL APRIL 18

    OSWEGO -- Seung Hee Yang, assistant professor of music at SUNY Oswego, will present classical works for violin at a solo recital at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 18, in the Sheldon Hall ballroom on campus.

    There is no admission fee and the public is invited to attend.

    The performance will feature works by Robert Schumann, Leos Janacek, Maurice Ravel, Johannes Brahms and Claude Debussy. Robert Auler of the music department will provide accompaniment on the piano.

    Yang has served as a featured recitalist and soloist of CIS Collegium Musicum String Orchestra of Mozarteum in Austria, Germany, Spain, France and Italy. She made her New York debut at Carnegie Hall in 2002. The Seoul native has experience as a concertmaster, principal violinist and orchestra member for such entities as the Seoul Music Academy, Collegium Musicum of Seoul National University, Salzburg Kammerphillharmonie and Princeton Pro Musica.

    She won the Dong-A music competition in Korea and the Rutgers Concerto competition. Yang also earned a special presentation award in the Artist International competition in the United States.

    Yang, who started at SUNY Oswego in fall 2003, graduated from Seoul National University, Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Amsterdam Conservatory and Rutgers University. Her teachers have included Arnold Steinhardt, Ruggiero Ricci, Victor Liberman and Jong-sook Li.
