TWO PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITIONS
SLATED AT TYLER ART GALLERY
OSWEGO -- Tyler Art Gallery at Oswego State will present two exhibitions of photography and related media from Nov. 10 to Dec. 10.
"From the Collection of Light Work" and "Observation and Reflection: Photographs by Pat Bacon" will open with an opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 10.
Light Work is a non-profit photography studio affiliated with Syracuse University. It has offered lectures, residencies and grants to artists since the 1970s.
The photographic collection of Light Work offers examples of work by artists in residence over the past 30 years, showing the history of contemporary photography.
More than 100 photos will be shown, including work by James Casebere, Linda Connor, Evergon, Robert Flynt, Carlos Gutierrez-Solana, Robert Hirsch, Rick Hock, Clarence John Laughlin, Scott McCarney, Willyum Rowe, Allyn Stewart, Cindy Sherman, Clarissa Sligh and Carrie Mae Weems.
Cynthia Clabough, Laurie Smith, James Kraus and David Kwasigroh, all faculty at Oswego State, curated the exhibition.
In the other exhibition are the monumental photographs of Oswego State graduate Pat Bacon. She has taught art at Sodus since 1971, has exhibited widely in the Northeast and has received numerous awards for her innovative work.
Through the non-traditional use of xerography, painting and mixed media, Bacon attempts to "use scale as a key to statement . . . to empower paper as a canvas or bronze."
The artist will speak in the gallery about her work at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14. The talk will be free and open to the public. It is sponsored by Artswego, the arts programming board at Oswego State.
Events and programs at Tyler Art Gallery are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9:30 am. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. weekends.
The gallery will be closed for the Thanksgiving break from Wednesday, Nov. 22, to Sunday, Nov. 26. Tyler Hall will be closed Nov. 18 for a construction project.
