RENAISSANCE DINNER

OSWEGO -- Tickets are now on sale for the seventh annual Renaissance Madrigal Banquet presented by the Oswego State music and theatre departments. The banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, and at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, in The Forum in Hewitt Union on campus.
The evening's festivities will include actors and musicians who invite the audience to take part in a holiday celebration in an English country manor house during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.
The array of colorful characters will provide entertainment, which will include a commedia dell arte play titled "The Mirror."
Directors for event will be Dr. Julie Pretzat of the music department and Mark Cole of the theatre department. Costumes will be designed by Kitty Macey, assisted by Michaeleen Melita, also of the theatre department. The recorder consort under the direction of Dr. Marilyn Smiley will perform along with Pretzat's Chamber Singers.
The authentic menu will recreate 16th century delicacies. The meal will be served banquet style. The evening will begin with spiced wine or mulled cider, assorted multigrain and herbed breads, and warm Brie with green and red grapes.
The dinner will include several vegetarian dishes and commence with squash in broth soup. Entrees for the dinner will include lamb stewed in apricots, sole duglere and duck with prunes.
Side dishes will include such choices as turnips baked with Gruyere, herbed fritters, barley pilaf with fennel, fish dumplings, potatoes O'Brien and butter greens. Desserts will include apple tarts, fig pudding, white custard with strawberries, cherry bread pudding and Mrs. Raffalds' rich seed cake with orange whipped cream.
The cost of $28 for the banquet will include the meal, entertainment and tax. Wine and other libations will be available at extra cost.
Tickets are available at the Tyler Box Office or by calling 312-2141. They must be purchased by Wednesday, Nov. 29. Seating is limited. Early reservations are recommended.
