FEAST, FESTIVITIES ON RENMAD BANQUET MENU

    OSWEGO -- Tickets are now on sale for the 10th annual Renaissance Madrigal Banquet, a feast for the senses presented by the SUNY Oswego music and theatre departments that will unfold Dec. 6 and 7 at The Forum in the Hewitt Union.

    The evening's festivities will include actors and musicians who invite the audience to take part in a holiday celebration in an English country manor house hosted by Lord and Lady Stubbs-Bottom during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. The array of colorful characters provide musical entertainment as well as dancing, juggling and a comic play by Ben Jonson titled "The Silent Woman."

    Directors for event are Julie Pretzat, professor and chair SUNY Oswego's music department, and Mark Cole, professor and chair of the college's theatre department. Costumes are designed by Kitty Macey, assisted by Judy McCabe, both of the theatre department. The recorder
consort under the direction of Distinguished Teaching Professor Marilynn Smiley of the music department, and the college's Chamber Singers will perform.

    The authentic menu, served banquet-style, recreates 16th century delicacies, Cole said. The evening starts with spiced wine broth or mulled cider, assorted multigrain and herbed breads, and dates stuffed with eggs and cheese.

    The banquet includes several vegetarian dishes and begins with barley fruit soup. Entrees for the dinner include chicken stuffed with lentils, cherries and cheese; beef roast with capers; and spiced pork in nutted wine sauce.

    The banquet includes side dishes such as herbed beets, lemon rice with almonds, lentil crisps, cabbage with marrow, parsnip mousse with almonds and wine, and a medieval salad. Desserts include a selection of plum pudding, almond cookies, rice pudding, bread pudding with bourbon sauce, apple tart, and pear and blueberry bake.

    Auxiliary Services at SUNY Oswego will once again plan and prepare the sumptuous feast, Cole said.

    Tickets cost $32 for adults, $30 for senior citizens and students, and $28 for SUNY Oswego students. The price includes the meal, entertainment and tax. Wine and other libations will be available at extra cost.

    The events start at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, and 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7. Tickets are available through the Tyler Hall box office by calling 312-2141. Deadline for purchasing tickets is Wednesday, Dec. 3. Because seating is limited, early reservations are recommended.
