OSWEGO -- Christene Barberich and Leigh Flayton will offer a snapshot of "The Magazine Industry Today" at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, in Room 102 of Lanigan Hall at SUNY Oswego.
The presentation, which is part of the college's Writing Arts Lecture Series, is admission-free and open to the public. SUNY Oswego alumni Barberich and Flayton will be on campus Oct. 15 to 17 to share their experiences with the college community.
Barberich has worked in magazine publishing in New York City for 10 years. Her editorial and business-related experience includes both well-established titles like The New Yorker and Gourmet as well as start-ups like Worth and CITY. She is currently the executive editor of CITY, a design, fashion and lifestyle publication. Her global beat has included reports from China and Turkey as well as an interview with German filmmaker Wim Wenders.
After collaborating with Barberich on CITY since its inception in 1999, Flayton became executive editor of CITY AZ magazine based in Phoenix, Ariz. Since graduation, Flayton has worked in television and filmmaking, written screenplays, had a one-act play produced and served as a research assistant to a fellow Oswego alum -- best-selling author and New Yorker columnist Ken Auletta.
