Trevor Jorgensen and Robert Auler of the music faculty perform the Dahl Saxophone Concerto, the Nielsen Clarinet Concerto, and other masterworks from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Afiara Quartet is a dynamic ensemble, described as “a revelation” (La Presse) with performances balancing “intensity and commitment” with “frequent moments of tenderness” (Montreal Gazette). After residencies at The Juilliard School and San Francisco State University, the Afiara is Fellowship Quartet at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto– embracing their role as ambassadors for the genre in the 21st century.

One of contemporary jazz’s most respected and accomplished players, Larry Grenadier provides his trademark upright bass work for the bands of pianist, Brad Mehldau and guitarist, Pat Metheny. In a distinguished recording career, he has performed with many other jazz luminaries. Joined by the Oswego Jazz Project, Grenadier showcases the tone and creative curiosity that keep him in demand.

Sam Green & Yo La Tengo: “The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller” @ Hewitt Union Ballroom

Buckminster Fuller

Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Sam Green presents his multi-media homage to the visionary architect, engineer and philosopher of sustainability, Buckminster Fuller. Accompanied live on stage by legendary indie band, Yo La Tengo, Green weaves video from Fuller’s extraordinary life into an engaging evening of “live cinema”.

The documentary project premiered at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and has played at creative venues and festivals from The Kitchen in New York City to the Barbican in London.

First Prize winners at the International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition at Carnegie Hall, Duo Parnas soon earned raves in The New York Times, which cited their “electrifying reading,” “lush tone,” and “pinpoint precision.” Presenting exciting and technically flawless performances, the duo is a collaboration of musical sisters– violinist Madalyn Parnas and cellist, Cicely Parnas.

Baritone Kyle Pfortmiller has appeared with opera companies throughout the United States, including the Metropolitan and New York City Operas, Sarasota Opera and Lake George Opera Festival. His stage repertoire ranges from Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Papageno to Lerner and Loewe’s Henry Higgins. He joins soprano, Laura Pfortmiller, for an evening of mesmerizing duets and enchanting arias from favorite grand opera composers.
