Hewitt Union Ballroom
From Boston to Baghdad, Tampa to Tokyo, The United States Army Field Band has been thrilling audiences of all ages for more than half a century.
The Jazz Ambassadors–America’s Big Band–is the official touring big band of the United States Army. This ensemble, formed in 1969, has received great acclaim, both at home and abroad, performing America’s original art form–jazz. Their diverse repertoire includes big band swing, bebop, Latin, contemporary jazz, standards, popular tunes, Dixieland, vocals, and patriotic selections — something for everyone.

“From the opening opus until the last note of the second encore, the Jazz Ambassadors held the audience in its thrall…It required utmost constraint not to literally jump up and down to the rhythm.”

TALK BY VISITING ARTIST EDWARD MAYER

Edward Mayer is an installation artist whose work employs non-traditional materials and questions the concept of art as commodity. Over a nearly 40-year artist journey, his work has consistently remained engaging and unexpected. Full of paradox, his installations also explore concepts of permanence and decay and the boundaries between indoor and outdoor space and art and architecture.
