Michelle Garcia

Michelle Garcia graduated from SUNY Oswego with a degree in journalism, minoring in political science and women’s studies. All of that, plus her concentration in creative nonfiction writing and editorship at The Oswegonian, came in handy when she was hired as an editorial assistant at The Advocate. She was promoted as an associate editor in 2009, and then commentary editor in 2012. In September 2013, she was named managing editor of Advocate.com.

Garcia studied screenwriting and producing at UCLA, as well as improv at Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles and sketch comedy at Improv Olympic, where she writes for a weekly topical sketch show, Top Story! Weekly. She lives in Santa Monica, with her comedy-writing husband. Garcia will talk about writers having a post-college career plan and related topics.
