Swimming and Diving

The Oswego State women's and RIT men's swimming and diving teams prevailed in a dual meet between the two schools on Wednesday night in Oswego. The Laker women defeated the RIT women's squad 148-95, while the Tiger men defeated their Oswego State counterparts 143-100.

Eileen McMahon (Sr., Clay, N.Y.) and Shawn Merlin (Jr., Palmyra, N.Y.) swept the diving events for the second consecutive meet as McMahon scored 227.25 points from the 1-meter board and 227.75 points from the 3-meter board.  Merlin met the NCAA qualifying mark for 1-meter diving with a score of 279.60 and tallied 282.65 points on the 3-meter board.

Nikki Dean (Jr., Lansing, N.Y.) lead the Oswego State women’s team with two individual first-place finishes and swam a leg of a winning relay.  Dean touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.79 and the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:20.90.  She also swam the first leg of the 200 medley relay, which recorded a time of 1:55.49.  Other members of the relay included Leah Matthews (Sr., Youngstown, N.Y.), Hannah Slaga (Jr., East Greenbush, N.Y.), and Emily Plummer (Fr., Horseheads, N.Y.).  Matthews also took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.24).

Remaining winners on the women’s side were Jenny VanEtten (Sr., Ravena, N.Y.) in the 500 and 1000 freestyle with times of 5:33.67 and 11:26.99, respectively, and Kelly Williams (Sr., Ballston Spa, N.Y.) in the 50 freestyle (25.89).

Jacob VanEtten (So., Ravena, N.Y.) won the 100 backstroke in 57.69 seconds, and was a member of the first-place 200 medley relay, which clocked a time of 1:45.79.  Other members of the relay included Dereck Harmon (Fr., Poteet, Texas), Greg Donohue (Sr., Niskayuna, N.Y.), and Nick Dupree (Vestal, N.Y.).



Oswego State will host Oneonta on Saturday, October 31 at 12 p.m. at the Laker Pool.
