Kayla Ryan Named ECAC Division III Upstate Rookie of the Year

Oswego State freshman forward Kayla Ryan (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) has been named the 2008-09 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate Rookie of the Year, as selected by the conference coaches. This is Ryan’s second postseason award, after being honored by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) as its Rookie of the Year.

Kayla Ryan named second team All-SUNYAC, honored as SUNYAC Rookie of the Year

Freshman forward Kayla Ryan (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) of the Oswego State women’s basketball team earned second-team accolades on the 2008-09 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) All-Conference Team and was also named the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, announced by the conference office on Monday, March 2.

Lakers season comes to an end with 66-43 loss to Brockport in SUNYAC quarterfinals

Senior Heather Merino (Queensbury/Lake George) compiled 13 points and eight assists, and junior Tricia Sullivan (Copenhagen) tallied 10 points and two steals for Oswego State, but host College at Brockport took a 25-16 halftime lead and never trailed throughout the game in posting a 66-43 win in the quarterfinal round of the 2009 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Lakers, seeded fifth in the tournamenr, finish the 2008-09 season with an 11-15 record.

Lakers defeat Buffalo State in home finale, 68-41

Five individuals scored in double figures as Oswego State shot 45.7 percent from the field and connected on 21 of 30 free throws (70 percent) in posting a 68-41 victory over Buffalo State College in the SUNYAC women’s basketball season finale for both teams on Friday, February 20 in Max Ziel Gymnasium. The game marked the final regular-season home appearances of seniors Heather Merino (Queensbury, NY/Lake George) and Deena Lazore (Carthage/Watertown Immaculate Heart Central).

Oswego suffers second straight loss in 50-45 defeat to Oneonta

The Laker’s struggled shooting the ball all night shooting 27 percent from the field for the game, 23 percent in the first half in a losing effort to Oneonta 50-45 Feb. 14 at the Max Ziel Gymnasium.  The poor shooting was contagious as Oswego shot 15 percent from behind the arc and 50 percent from the free-throw line.
