Wrestling In Eighth Place After First Day of Ithaca Invitational
After the first day of the Ithaca Invitational, the Oswego State wrestling team sits tied for eighth place with 28 points. Blake Fisher (So., Seaford, N.Y.) won three matches in the 149-pound weight class to advance to the semifinals where he will face Blaine Woszczak of Ithaca. Fisher defeated Nick Herrick of RWU 9-4, Troy Sterling of Cortland 3-2, and Mike Pagano of Cortland 7-1 to reach the semifinals.

Other Laker wrestlers to compete on the final day of the tournament include Scott McGregor (So., Tonawanda, N.Y.) at 125 pounds, Omar Santiago (Fr., Huntington, N.Y.) at 133 pounds, Alex Petroff (Fr., Cazenovia, N.Y.) at 141 pounds, Mike Howard (Sr., Oswego, N.Y.) at 149 pounds, Gage Banker (So., Fairport, N.Y.) at 157 pounds, Marc Collins (Jr., Farmington, N.Y.) at 165 pounds, Kyle Sheridan (Fr., Syracuse, N.Y.) at 197 pounds, and Eric Leusch (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) and Joe Pesce (So., Port Jervis, N.Y.) at 285 pounds.

Derrick Smith’s All-America run ends after first day of NCAA Division III Championships

The stellar collegiate career of Oswego State 141-pound senior Derrick Smith (Mexico) came to an end on the first day of competition at the 2009 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, IA.  Smith finished with a 1-2 tournament record, eliminated from competition after the second round of bouts in the consolation bracket.

Derrick Smith seeded eighth at 141 pounds for this weekend's NCAA Division III Championships

Oswego State senior Derrick Smith (Mexico) garnered the eighth seed in the 141-pound weight class for the 2009 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships, set for Friday and Saturday, March 6-7 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Ithaca wins second ECWC title behind four champions, Oswego's Smith qualifies for NCAA tournament for third straight year

Ithaca College crowned four individuals champions and had three other wrestlers finishing among the top three to successfully defend their team title at the 18th annual Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference championships, hosted by Oswego State on Saturday, February 21 at Max Ziel Gymnasium.

Laker grapplers finish dual schedule 2-1 at Scranton quadrangular

  The Oswego State wrestling capped off its 2008-09 dual meet schedule at the University of Scranton quadrangular, coming away with a 22-14 win over The Apprentice School of Newport News, Va., and a 44-9 victory over host Scranton before dropping a 29-10 decision to 18th-ranked College of New Jersey to finish the season with a 5-10 record.
