Bri Dolan ’15 was the first Laker women’s soccer player to be named First Team All-SUNYAC since 2002.

Volleyball

Oswego State volleyball returned to SUNY Athletic Conference Playoffs for the first time since 1996 after turning in an overall record of 12-19 and a conference record of 2-4. The league victories also marked the first conference wins for the Lakers since the 2008 season. Oswego State eventually fell to NCAA qualifier New Paltz, 3-0, in the first round of the SUNYAC Playoffs.

Middle blockers Stephanie Bailey ’15 and Chelsea Crump ’13 received Second Team All-SUNYAC Western Division honors, becoming the first Lakers to earn all-conference recognition since 2007 when Heidi Armstrong ’08 was named Second Team All-SUNYAC Western Division. It also marked the first time that Oswego State had multiple honorees since 2005 when three players were acknowledged.

Women’s Soccer

The Oswego State women’s soccer team closed out the 2012 SUNYAC schedule with a 1-0 overtime victory over Cortland to help the Lakers end the season at 7-9-0 overall and 3-6-0 in the league. The win was just the program’s second victory over the Red Dragons and the first since 2004. Bri Dolan ’15 scored eight points on three goals and two assists, becoming the first Laker women’s soccer player to be named First Team All-SUNYAC since Kathryn Stead ’05 was selected in 2002.

Zack Saccocio ’15 earned all-tournament team honors at the Oswego State Invitational, where the Lakers took home the runner-up trophy.

Men’s Soccer

The Oswego State men’s soccer team remained in the SUNYAC race until the final day of the regular season, but came up just short of returning to the league championships with an overall record of 4-10-1 and a SUNYAC record of 3-5-1.

The squad posted back-to-back shutouts against Fredonia and Buffalo State late in the season. It marked the first time Oswego State had posted back-to-back shutouts in SUNYAC games since 2008, when the Lakers blanked Fredonia and Buffalo State. In the next contest, Oswego State knocked off Geneseo to post the program’s first three-game conference win streak since 2009.

Field Hockey

The Oswego State field hockey team closed out the 2012 campaign on a three-game winning streak starting with a 1-0 win over Brockport to finish at 6-10 overall and 2-4 in SUNYAC play.

Forward Michelle Ruskey ’13 was named First Team All-SUNYAC after finishing the season second on the squad with 12 points on four goals — all of which came in conference contests — and four assists.

Women’s Tennis

The Laker women’s tennis team battled past Alfred and St. John Fisher by the scores of 5-4 and defeated Wells, 8-1, en route to records of 3-12 overall and 0-3 in the SUNYAC West Division.

Men’s Golf

The Oswego State men’s golf team’s fall season was highlighted by a fifth-place finish at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Mid-Atlantic Championships with a two-day score of 660, which was the highest Laker finish since 2008 when the program placed fourth.

Oswego State won the Keuka Fall Invitational with a team score of 310 as Nick Sterling ’13 tied for medalist honors with a round of 76.

Men’s Cross Country

Damian Archie ’14 was the top Laker finisher at the men’s cross country NCAA Regionals with a time of 27:25 for 113th out of 297 competitors.

The Oswego State men’s cross country team placed fifth or better in every meet, including third-place results at the Houghton Invitational and DeSales Invitational, before finishing ninth at the SUNYAC Championships hosted by Fredonia. The Lakers later went on to tie for 26th at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships.

Women’s Cross Country

Three Laker women’s cross country runners established new personal-bests at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships, as the Oswego State women’s cross country team placed 25th two weeks after finishing ninth at the SUNYAC Championships.

Christina Sakowski ’14 posted the top time of the season and the fourth-fastest 6K time in program history at NCAA Regionals with a time of 23:57. Three teammates also moved onto the squad’s top times at 6,000 meters.

Men’s Lacrosse

Oswego State’s men’s lacrosse team raced out to a program-best 7-0 start, including a dramatic, come-from-behind, double-overtime win over nationally ranked Ithaca. They finished the year 8-6 overall for the first winning season since 2000.

Captains Ian O’Brien ’12 and Eric Miccio ’12 received postseason recognition from the SUNY Athletic Conference. O’Brien was named to the All-SUNY Athletic Conference Second Team, while Miccio received honorable mention recognition after the Lakers went 1-5 in league play. Cody Hoose ’15 led the squad in scoring with 49 points on 20 goals and 29 assists for the most points scored by a Laker since 2004.

Baseball

The Oswego State baseball team remained in the thick of the conference playoff race through the final weekend of competition, but came up just short in the end with eight SUNYAC wins, which totaled more conference victories than the previous three years combined. The Lakers and first-year head coach Scott Landers closed out the year with a 10-2 win over nationally third-ranked Keystone to finish the year at 20-20.

Matt Miller ’12 led Oswego State at the plate, batting .379, while David Mazzullo ’13 produced a team-best 28 RBI and 44 hits. The bulk of the pitching staff returns, including Jon Stevens ’13, who paced the pitching staff with a 1.95 ERA, innings pitched (60.0), and strikeouts (35) en route to receiving Second Team All-SUNYAC honors. Alex Jurczynski ’13 and John Rauseo ’15 joined Stevens on the second team. Rauseo also became the first Laker to be named Clark V. Whited Rookie of the Year since 2004, when Mike Cortellini ’06 earned the award.

Softball

Ayouthful Laker softball team with two seniors on the roster and second-year head coach Casey Grimes Price ’00 consistently split games against SUNYAC opponents during the season to clinch the sixth-seed in the conference playoffs, marking the second time in program history and the first time since 2008 that Oswego State qualified for the league tournament. The Lakers ended the season at 16-23 overall and 8-10 in the league.

Offensively, the Lakers were led by Second Team All-SUNYAC pick Sammie Schroeter ’14, who paced the Lakers in batting average (.362), runs scored (20) and hits (42). The centerfielder ranked second with 17 RBI and 11 extra-base hits. In the pitcher’s circle, Ashley Snyder ’13 ranked third among all league pitchers with 114 strikeouts and fourth in innings pitched (131.2) and appearances (29). At the plate, she was third on the team in RBI (16) and runs scored (17) as she joined Schroeter on the All-SUNYAC Second Team.

Men’s Tennis

Oswego State’s men’s tennis team posted back-to-back wins against Keuka and Keystone colleges last spring with a young roster comprised of six sophomores and freshmen after graduating seven players the year before before wrapping up the year at 3-7 overall. The Lakers gained experience over the course of the season, as they have a talented group coming back, including all six singles players and five out of six doubles players. Sam Moores ’15 turned in the best singles record at 4-3 with three of the four victories coming at the No. 2 position.

Mallory Eckert ’14 finished third at the SUNYAC Championships in the javelin.

Outdoor Track and Field

Laker men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams posted identical eighth-place finishes with 33 and 36 points, respectively, at the SUNYAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships under head coach David Thompson. Da’Quan Coleman ’12 and Brittany DalCais ’15 earned Second Team All-SUNYAC recognition after placing second in the 110-meter hurdles and the pole vault, respectively. DalCais later bettered her school record in the event at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships after clearing a sixth-place height of 3.55 meters, which narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA championships.

Women’s Lacrosse

The Laker women’s lacrosse team reached the 20-goal plateau in three of its wins last season, while holding opponents in those contests to eight goals or fewer, as Oswego State went 4-3 against non-conference foes for a 4-10 overall record.

Erin Cummings ’12 was recognized on the All-SUNYAC Second Team after pacing the Lakers in scoring, as she amassed 53 goals and 19 assists for 72 points.

The men’s ice hockey defense posted a program-low 54 goals this season, en route to its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Frozen Four.

A fter falling one game short of the NCAA Division III Championship game for the second year in a row, one of the Laker men’s ice hockey team’s goals was reaching the title contest in Lake Placid. Oswego State displayed consistency throughout the season to earn the No. 1-seed in the SUNY Athletic Conference Championships for the third straight season after posting a league record of 14-0-2.

The team later received an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament where it defeated Elmira, 5-0, in the quarterfinals to advance to the NCAA Division III Frozen Four for the third consecutive year, marking a program first. Oswego State advanced to the title game after knocking off Amherst, 2-1, in overtime, courtesy of a goal by Paul Rodrigues ’13 and 43 saves from Andrew Hare ’13. However, the Lakers’ season ended with a loss to St. Norbert for a runner-up finish with a record of 24-4-2, but not before establishing a new defensive standard after allowing a program-low 54 goals.

Men’s Basketball

The Oswego State men’s basketball team and first-year head coach Jason Leone rewrote the program’s record books, as the Lakers won the school’s first SUNYAC Championship since 1965 to earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament. Oswego State advanced to the second round after defeating Endicott College, 72-71 in overtime, and was seconds away from advancing to the Sweet Sixteen before suffering a double-overtime loss to Eastern Connecticut State University to finish the season at a program-best 26-4. The Lakers went on a 17-game win streak during the year, earned the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament after posting the program’s first undefeated SUNYAC season on record at 18-0, and will carry a 32-game conference winning streak into next year.

Chad Burridge ’12 wrapped up his illustrious career by averaging 16.8 points and 7.9 rebounds. Burridge led the men’s basketball team to its second straight NCAA Division III Tournament.

Chad Burridge ’12 wrapped up his illustrious career by averaging 16.8 points and 7.9 rebounds. By the end of the season, he was at the top of the program’s career blocked shots list at 253, second on the career points list at 1,865, and second on the career rebounds list at 875. Burridge saw his list of accomplishments grow as he received the following honors for the second straight year: First Team All-SUNYAC, SUNYAC Player of the Year, National Association of Basketball Coaches East District Player of the Year, Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Upstate Player of the Year, D3hoops.com East Region First Team, and First Team NABC All-American. He also added D3hoops.com East Region Player of the Year to his post-season accolades and was invited to play in the Reese’s Division III College All-Star Game.

Women’s Ice Hockey

The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team recorded the program’s best ECAC West record at 8-8-2 to earn the fourth seed in the league playoffs, allowing the Lakers to host their first-ever home playoff contest.

Oswego State did not disappoint, as it defeated Neumann, 3-0, in front of the home crowd for the program’s first playoff win to advance to the ECAC West semifinals. The Lakers nearly pulled off an upset, but fell to Plattsburgh by the score of 1-0, finishing the season at 11-14-2.

Swimming and Diving

The Oswego State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams posted sixth- and seventh-place finishes, respectively, at the SUNYAC Championships in February with the Laker men recording 303 points and the Laker women posting 219 points.

Freshman sensation Jordan Prophet ’15 earned First Team All-SUNYAC honors as he stood on top or near the top of the podium in three individual events with three new school records. On the women’s side, Delia Reed ’12, Katie Flood ’14 and Katie Maye ’12 tallied a large number of points in the 100 breaststroke.

Women’s Basketball

Kayla Ryan ’12 closed out her four-year career as a Second Team All-SUNYAC honoree for the fourth straight season, becoming the third player in program history to receive all-conference recognition all four years.

The Oswego State women’s basketball team made its 11th consecutive SUNYAC postseason appearance after posting an overall record of 12-14 and a league record of 7-11.

At the start of the season, the Lakers captured first place at the Max Ziel Tournament with Kayla Ryan ’12 earning MVP honors. Ryan was also named to the NYU Classic All-Tournament team

She closed out her four-year career as a Second Team All-SUNYAC honoree for the fourth straight season, becoming the third player in program history to receive all-conference recognition all four years.

Wrestling

The Oswego State wrestling team had several individual successes during a season that saw the Lakers finish 3-12 in dual meets.

Brad Mayville ’15 posted a record of 19-14 at 141 pounds, and was the highest-placing Laker at the ECWC Championships with the third-place finish. Captain Omar Santiago ’13 turned out a solid season at 133 pounds, finishing with a record of 21-9. In the heavyweight division, Kyle Sheridan ’13 produced the most wins on the team after posting a record of 23-11. Sheridan won his weight class at the RIT Invitational and garnered fifth-place honors at the ECWC Championships. Cameron Mills ’13 ended the year with a record of 16-3 for the highest winning percentage on the squad.

Indoor Track and Field

The Oswego State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams finished seventh and eighth, respectively, at the
SUNYAC Championships in February, while select members of the men’s squad tied for 50th-place at the ECAC Championships.

Da’Quan Coleman ’12 became the first Oswego State male track and field athlete since 2006 to win the ECAC Championships and earn First Team All-SUNYAC honors. Brittany DalCais ’15 became the first Oswego State female ever to win the pole vault at the indoor or outdoor conference meet en route to earning First Team All-SUNYAC recognition.

Women’s Soccer

The Oswego State women’s soccer team experienced a banner year in 2011, posting its best record since 1996 with an overall mark of 11-8. The season culminated with a win over Brockport, 2-1, to get the 2011 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Upstate New York Championship for just the second time in program history while also avenging an earlier loss to the Golden Eagles.

Nikki Liadka ’14 and Shelly Bateman ’13 supplied a solid one-two scoring punch for Oswego State, as Liadka tallied 29 points (12 goals, five assists) and Bateman posted 19 points (six goals, seven assists).

Liadka was named to the All-SUNY Athletic Conference Second Team as well as the Most Outstanding Player of the ECAC Upstate New York Championship and Bateman received Third Team All-SUNYAC honors.

Men’s Soccer

The Oswego State men’s soccer team opened the 2011 season with its best record since 1999 at 5-1-0, but struggled down the stretch as it posted an overall
record of 5-10-1 and a conference record of 0-8-1.

Bryan Pacchiana ’12 earned third team all-conference honors for the third straight year, becoming the first Laker men’s soccer player to be a three-time All-SUNYAC selection since Scott Brown ’06 was selected in 2002, 2004 and 2005.

Women’s Tennis

A young Oswego State women’s tennis team with just two seniors turned in a win over Wells to post a 1-13 record. The Lakers were led by Christine Ripple ’12 at No. 6 singles, as she finished with a record of 6-7.

Volleyball

The Oswego State volleyball team posted an overall record of 7-22 and a conference record of 0-8.

Stephanie Bailey ’15posted a team-high 206 kills and 98 total blocks, the highest since 2002.

Kyle Brockmann ’15 tied for medalist honors at the Oswego State Invitational.

Men’s Golf

The Laker men’s golf team posted a second-place finish at the Potsdam Quad and a pair of third-place finishes at the Oswego State and Elmira Fall Invitationals with identical scores of 320 before placing sixth at the rain-shortened ECAC Metro/Upstate Championships with a team score of 345.

Kyle Brockmann ’15 tied for medalist honors at the Oswego State Invitational with a round of 74. Brockmann also placed fourth at the Elmira Invitational with a score of 76, 13th at the St. Lawrence Invitational with combined rounds of 150, and tied for 30th at the Hamilton Invitational with a two-day total of 157.

Colt Tooley ’14 turned in the top individual result at the ECAC Championships with a round of 84 to tie for 22nd.

Cross Country

The Oswego State men’s and women’s cross country teams finished the 2011 campaigns strong as the men placed 14th out of 40 teams at the NCAA Atlantic
Regional Championships and the women finished 24th out of 36 squads. The Lakers also had solid showings at the SUNYAC Championships hosted by SUNY

Dylan Hardwick ’12 earned Second Team All-SUNY Athletic Conference honors.

New Paltz where the men erased more than 80 points from the 2010 team total to finish four points out of fifth place in sixth, while the women placed eighth.

Dylan Hardwick ’12 and Meghan Murphy ’15 were the top Laker finishers every week. Hardwick capped off the season with an 8K personal-best time of 26:13 to place 27th among 272 runners at the regional meet. He earned 13th place and Second Team All-SUNYAC honors at the SUNYAC Championships with a time of 26:42 to become the first Laker male harrier to receive all-conference honors since Weston Fellows ’06 in 2005.

On the women’s side, Murphy registered her best time and the eighth-fastest time in program history in a 6K distance with a time of 24:37.10 for 35th at the SUNYAC Championships.

Field Hockey

The Oswego State field hockey team won five of its final seven games to post a 7-10 overall record with seven of the losses coming in one-goal decisions, including three in overtime. The Lakers posted a SUNYAC record of 2-4 with wins over Morrisville and Oneonta. The latter was
Oswego State’s first victory over the Red Dragons since 2008.

Kelly Collins ’12 paced the squad offensively with 25 points on 11 goals and three assists. She also paced the SUNYAC in  points with six goals and an assist for 13 points in six league contests to be named first team all-conference for the second time. The 2008 SUNYAC Rookie of the Year ended her career with 80 career points (31 goals, 18 assists), which ranks fourth all-time on the program’s points list and third in career goals and assists.

Defender Ashley Collins ’14 joined Kelly Collins on the all-conference team as a second team pick after adding three goals and an assist.

Rachael Raffa ’12 finished the season with the 10th-highest single season scoring total in school history.

Women’s Lacrosse

The women’s lacrosse team remained in the thick of the playoff race until the final week of the season, but fell just short of qualifying for the SUNY Athletic Conference Championships as the Lakers finished the season at 8-6 overall and 3-5 in the league. However, it was still a year filled with accomplishments as Oswego State defeated Oneonta for the first time since 2005 by the score of 20-11. The contest also marked the first time since 2001 that the Lakers recorded 20 goals against a conference opponent.

Rachael Raffa ’12 finished the season with the 10th-highest single season scoring total in school history with 61 points to move into sixth place on the career scoring list with 140 points. Her team-leading 49 goals was also tied for seventh in single-season goals all time.

Men’s Lacrosse

Britt Leone ’12 scored a team-leading 17 goals for the men’s lacrosse team.

The men’s lacrosse team played through a wide range of conditions in 2011, including a game in the snow to open the home portion of its schedule in March, en route to a 5-10 overall record and a 0-6 conference record. One season highlight came when Oswego State defeated Utica for the second straight year, 7-6, in a double-overtime thriller.

Andy Lever ’12 paced the Laker offense with 29 points on 11 goals and 18 assists, while Britt Leone ’12 scored a team-leading 17 goals. Leone went on to be named to the All-SUNYAC Second Team as he posted 10 goals in league play, and was ninth in the conference at 1.67 goals per game.

Outdoor Track and Field

The men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams improved on their performances at the SUNYAC Championships from a year ago, as the Laker men tied for seventh place with 33 points and the Laker women placed eighth with 14 points. Da’Quan Coleman ’12 set a new precedent in the 110-meter hurdles en route to placing second at the SUNYAC Championships and earning Second Team All-SUNYAC honors, while Katie Bott ’14 became the new record-holder in the 400 meters during her preliminary heat before finishing sixth in the finals with a time of 59.21. Christine Ripple ’12, had the top finish on the women’s side as she placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.81.

Men’s Tennis

The men’s tennis team battled with Mother Nature this spring, but through all of the rescheduled matches the Lakers posted a record of 4-7. Oswego State was led by Seth Hastings ’11, who posted a record of 5-5 in singles action. The Lakers have some talented players returning next season to help replace the seven graduating seniors from the 11-man roster, including Ben Weiss ’14, who went 4-5 during singles play.

Baseball

Pitcher Dustin LeFave ’11 threw a complete-game win over nationally-ranked Cortland for the Lakers’ first win over the Red Dragons since 2006.

The baseball team started the season with a 10-3 record after a highly successful Spring Break trip before finishing at 19-20 overall with five doubleheader sweeps and a SUNYAC mark of 1-17. The top highlight of the year came on April 14 when pitcher Dustin Lefave ’11 threw a complete-game win over nationally-ranked Cortland for the Lakers’ first win over the Red Dragons since 2006.

Leading the way at the plate for the Lakers was catcher Kris Prikazsky ’12, who batted .375 in 40 plate appearances. However, centerfielder Scott Buniak ’14 was close behind with a .331 average in 124 at-bats and led Oswego State in almost every statistical category, including hits (41), doubles (7), triples (3) and RBI (22). Dan Erne ’13 paced the pitching staff as he finished the season with a 7-3 record after pitching 55 innings. He ended the year with a team-leading 3.27 ERA and 46 strikeouts.

Softball

Infielder Dee Apps ’14 is part of a young softball squad that this year included 13 freshman and sophomore players.

A young Oswego State softball team, comprised of 13 sophomores and freshmen, battled through the
season of ups and downs that saw the Lakers drop four games in extra-innings, including a 1-0 loss to 17th-ranked Plattsburgh in the final weekend of the year, for an overall record of 7-27 and a SUNYAC record of 2-16. The peak moment of the season came when freshman Jessica Palmitesso ’14 tossed the first Oswego no-hitter since 2002 against New Paltz in a 9-0 win.

The Lakers were led offensively by Katie Bredin ’14, who batted .350 and was named to the All-SUNYAC squad.

It was a banner year for the Oswego State men’s basketball team and Coach Adam Stockwell. The Lakers finished the season at 24-5 overall for the second-most wins in school history to make their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the 88-year
history of the program.

Chad Burridge '12

Oswego State advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament, defeating Wells College, 64-58, in front of a packed house at Max Ziel Gymnasium before falling to Rhode Island College.

The Lakers went on a 16-game win streak during the year and earned the first-ever No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC tournament.

Chad Burridge ’12 averaged 18.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game and became the 15th player in school history to enter the 1,000-point club.

Among many honors, Burridge was named SUNYAC Player of the Year, and Stockwell was named SUNYAC Coach of the Year and NABC East District Coach of the Year. At press time, we learned that Coach Stockwell would be leaving Oswego.

Men’s Ice Hockey

The Laker men’s ice hockey team started the season with a mission to return to the NCAA Division III Tournament to take care of unfinished business from a year ago.

Oswego State got off to a quick start winning the first 12 games of the season to reach a No. 1 national ranking for the second consecutive year en route to earning the top seed in the SUNY Athletic Conference Championships with a 15-1 record.

The team led by Ed Gosek ’83, M ’01 was unable to defend its SUNYAC title, but received an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, giving the Lakers their first back-to-back national tournament appearances since the 1987-88 and 1988-89 seasons.

Dan Bremer '11

Oswego State advanced to the NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Frozen Four in Minneapolis, but came up just short of reaching the NCAA Championship game after losing to Adrian College in the semifinal contest to finish the year at 23-5.

Women’s Ice Hockey

The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team experienced a season of many “firsts” in 2010-11 after posting a 13-10-3 overall record. The Lakers earned the program’s first-ever double-digit-win season with 13 victories and a winning record of 8-7-3 in the ever-competitive ECAC West.

Goaltender Emi Williams ’11 posted the best season of her stellar career with a .941 save percentage, which ranked fifth nationally, and a 1.68 goals against average, which ranked 11th nationally, en route to being named to the All-ECAC West Second Team. The honor signified the first time a Laker had received all-conference recognition.

Oswego State has a bright future to look forward to as it returns its top six scorers.

Swimming and Diving

The Oswego State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams had successful runs at the SUNYAC Championships in February with the Laker women placing fifth after scoring 324 points and the Laker men placing sixth with 287 points.

Nicole Dean ’11 led the women’s charge at the conference championships along with stellar performances by Katie Maye ’12 and Delia Reed ’12.

On the men’s side, Kyle Lounsberry ’11 stood on the podium in three individual events.

Dean and Nick Dupree ’12 were also recognized for their efforts in the classrooms as they were the recipients of the Oswego State Woman’s Scholar Athlete and Donald Snygg Awards respectively. Dean was also one of five SUNY Oswego students to receive the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.

Women’s Basketball

The Oswego State women’s basketball team earned its 10th consecutive
SUNYAC postseason appearance after starting the season with six straight wins before posting an overall record of 11-15 and a SUNYAC record of 8-10. At the start of the season, the Lakers captured first place at the Max Ziel Tournament with Colleen McCready ’11 earning MVP honors, while Kayla Ryan ’12 was also named to the all-tournament team.

Ryan, who led Oswego State in scoring, became the ninth player in Laker women’s basketball history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.

Wrestling

The Oswego State wrestling team had several individual successes during a season that saw the Lakers finish 5-11 in dual meets, seventh at the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championships, and 15th at the New York Intercollegiate State Championships. Michael Gentilcore ’14 was named the ECWC Rookie of the Year, becoming the first wrestler in program
history to receive postseason accolades from the ECWC. Gentilcore posted a record of 26-8 with 13 pins at 125 pounds, and earned third place at the ECWC Championships.

Indoor Track and Field

The Oswego State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams each finished in eighth place at the SUNYAC Championships in February while select members of the men’s squad tied for 47th-place at the ECAC Championships.

The top-finishing event for the Lakers at the conference meet was the 4×400 relays for both men’s and women’s squads. The men’s team set a new school record in the event with its third-place time of 3:26.72. The women’s crew established a new benchmark after crossing the finish line in 4:12.41.

Field Hockey

The Laker field hockey team had several highlights en route to a 4-11 overall record and 1-5 SUNYAC mark, including a 2-1 overtime win over Brockport. In a 7-0 win over Wells, Kelly Collins ’12 tied the school record for points in a game with eight on three goals and two assists, while Ashley Fiorelle ’14 tied the program mark for assists in a contest with three.

Offensively, Oswego State was paced by Collins and Brittany Roetzer ’12. Roetzer became the second player in program history to receive First Team All-SUNYAC accolades for two seasons, while Kelly Blair ’13 was named to the all-conference second team.

Brian Pacchiana '12

10-1. The team went 4-1 during a mid-season home stand that saw the Lakers defeat NCAA qualifier Plattsburgh 2-1 in overtime.

Oswego was led on both ends of the field by two-time All-SUNYAC Third Team performer Bryan Pacchiana ’12. Pacchiana paced the squad with eight points on three goals and two assists, while anchoring a defense that allowed 28 goals during the season.

Women’s Soccer

The Oswego State women’s soccer team saw a great deal of success against non-conference foes, generating a record of 6-3-0, but came up short in league play to finish the season at 7-10-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the SUNY Athletic Conference. One of the season’s highlights for the Lakers came when they defeated 2009 NCAA qualifier Muhlenberg College 2-1 in Oswego.

Nikki Liadka ’14 provided a large scoring punch for Oswego State as she turned in one of the best single-season performances in program history. She compiled 13 goals and three assists for 29 points to earn All-SUNYAC Third Team honors.

Volleyball

The Oswego State volleyball team under the direction of head coach Pat Hanlon took third place at the Oswego State

Invitational in October to highlight a season where it finished 10-20 overall and 0-8 in the conference. Outside hitters  Katie van Kessel ’12 and Jess Isgro ’11 led the Laker offensive attack with 253 and 240 kills, respectively. Both players were recognized on all-tournament squads throughout the season, as van Kessel was named to the Oswego State and Union Invitational all-tournament teams and Isgro was chosen for the Hartwick Invitational All-Tournament Team. Stephany Olsheski ’13, who finished the season with 739 assists, was also named to the Potsdam Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Women’s Tennis

A youthful Oswego State women’s tennis team that graduated five contributing seniors from a season ago turned in wins over Wells and Sage colleges to post a 2-10 record. The Lakers were led by Christine Ripple ’11 who finished with a record of 5-7. Oswego State has talented players at the top of the lineup in Nicole Leader ’13 and Lauren MacHose ’14, who will provide a foundation to build upon next season.

Men’s Golf

The Laker men’s golf team turned in solid results throughout the 2010 fall season under head coach Mike Howard ’90, taking top honors in one event and second place in another before placing seventh at the ECAC Championships with a team score of 379 (347-332).

Oswego State won its own invitational Sept. 20, with a team score of 313 and three golfers in the top 10. Pat Davidow ’11 carded a score of 76 to finish tied for second place. The following weekend, the Lakers took second place at the Elmira Fall Invitational with a team score of 669 (329-340).

second-place results in the first two meets of the season at Oneonta and Oswego State. At the SUNYAC Championships, the men’s squad placed seventh, while the women’s squad place eighth.

Samson Dikeman ’11 proved to be Oswego State’s most consistent performer throughout the season, starting with shattering the school record at the 6K distance by 23 seconds with a time of 20:05 to place second at the Oneonta Invitational. Dikeman was also the top Laker male runner at the SUNYAC and NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships with times of 27:25.86 and 26:37.8, respectively.

On the women’s side, Erin Crise ’12 ended the season strong as the top Oswego State women’s harrier at the SUNYAC and NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships after crossing the finish line in 24:51.98 and 24:27.2, respectively. Earlier in the season, Kathleen Fulton ’13 put her name in the Laker record books with the fourth-fastest 5K time in program history at 19:07 at the Houghton Invitational.

Here’s a look at spring 2010 athletics at Oswego.

Outdoor Track and Field

The outdoor track and field squads consistently established new personal bests over the course of the year, while also rewriting some school records and collecting additional honors. Kyle Dudzinski ’12 established a new school mark in the javelin with a distance of 163 feet, 11 inches (49.96 meters) after breaking the record in back-to-back weeks. AJ Carapella ’10 also had a strong outdoor season when he won the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the Hamilton Invitational followed by a first-place result in the 200 at the University of Rochester Invite.The Laker men’s 4×100 meter relay, consisting of Carapella, Dudzinski, Geoff Kobuszewski ’10 and Kevin Leonard ’12, posted a time of 43.82 to place 12th at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships after qualifying at the SUNY Athletic Conference Championships with a seventh-place finish.

Men’s Tennis

Tom Loughrey ’11

Despite being outmatched in most of their contests, the 12-member men’s tennis team demonstrated a true passion for the game through hard work and perseverance over the season’s obstacles. Their opponents
included the likes of Oneonta, Elmira, Rochester Institute of Technology,
Onondaga Community College, Roberts Wesleyan and St. John Fisher. Jeff
McGovern ’11 posted the best singles record on the team with a mark of 2-3 with victories against Elmira and OCC.

Softball

The Laker softball team battled through the spring season, posting a 5-29 overall record with non-conference wins over Lasell during spring break, Nazareth in dramatic walk-off fashion, and Utica after being shut out of the first game in the doubleheader.

Britanny Carbacio '12

Oswego closed out the 2010 season by sweeping Potsdam in a doubleheader, including a five-inning, 10-2 victory, in the final weekend of the semester.

The young squad that featured 13 sophomores and freshmen including Marie Steding ’13, who batted .429, and Sue Schoff ’13, who recorded a .319 batting average. Steding also led the pitching staff, which consisted entirely of freshmen, in wins (4), ERA (5.33), and strikeouts (45).

Women’s Lacrosse

The SUNY Oswego women’s lacrosse team found that South Athletic Field was a welcome place for the Lakers to compete as they had a mark of 5-3 at home en route to an overall record of 7-10. One of the season’s highlights came during a three-game stretch when the Lakers scored 20 or more goals in each contest. In the final game of the streak, Oswego State established a new single-game scoring record with 28 goals and 45 points in a 28-3 victory over Cazenovia as Marisa Audley ’10, Kristen Darcy ’12, Amanda Hecox ’12 and Maria Martusewicz ’11.

Defender Liz Conrad ’12 was voted Second Team All-SUNYAC by the league coaches, as she paced the squad with 21 caused turnovers and 37 groundballs.

Men’s Lacrosse

The Laker lacrosse team remained in the thick of the SUNYAC playoff race until the very end of the spring season, but came up just short as parity was exhibited among all of the conference squads before posting an overall mark of 6-10. One of the many highlights from the year came when Oswego battled from behind to defeat Utica 10-9 in a thriller under the lights, marking the first time since 2003 that the Lakers knocked off the Pioneers. A second come-from-behind victory came at home with the Lakers fighting back to defeat Brockport 11-9.

Goalie Judd Robinson ’10 finished the season with 183 saves to close out his career with 697 saves, ranking second in program history just behind Scott Moody ’95, who amassed 728 career stops. Transfer student Andy Lever ’12 fueled the Laker offense with 43 points on 23 goals and 20 assists.

The season also marked the end of an era as head coach Dan Witmer ’82 stepped down from his position following the college’s decision to elevate the position to full-time status. During Witmer’s 28-year career as a part-time head coach, the Lakers appeared in six ECAC tournaments, winning the championship in 1996 and finishing second in 1994 and 1997. His teams also won three Empire Lacrosse League titles (1994, 1995, 1996), and were ranked among the nation’s top 20 teams in both 1994 and 1996.

Baseball

Mike Tarnowski '13

After getting off to a slow start, the Oswego baseball team closed out its spring break trip with a six-game winning streak to jumpstart another 20-win season. The Lakers put together a second run midway through the season, winning five out of seven games in April, as Oswego went on to record seven doubleheader sweeps en route to an overall record of 20-16. The offense scored 10 or more runs in 11 games during the season.

Leading the way at the plate for the Lakers was Rafael Cordero ’11, who tallied a .355 batting average with a team-leading 29 RBI. Andy Salvatore ’10 paced the pitching staff with a 3.28 ERA, five complete games, and 32 strikeouts.
