Nancy Whitlock Adragna ’35 of North Syracuse passed away Dec. 19. She was employed by the Syracuse City School District for many years, retiring from the Franklin School. Nancy is survived by two sons, Richard and Robert “Mac” ’64; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several stepchildren and stepgrandchildren.

Ella Lindsley Arnold ’33 of Fulton passed away Aug. 11 at the age of 99. She taught in a one-room country school near Bowens Corners and in Schroeppel. She was the first kindergarten teacher at the Cleveland Elementary School. Ella is survived by a son, a daughter, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Anna White Howell ’34 of Port Byron passed away May 29, 2011. She taught in the Port Byron School District for more than 40 years, retiring in 1975. Anna is survived by a daughter.

Merva Martz Walasek ’37 of Camden died July 4. She taught for several years before raising a family. After her children were all in school, she tutored homebound students. Merva is survived by two daughters and four grandchildren.

Helen Williams Cornell ’40 of Jamesville died June 17. She was a teacher for 26 years. She taught in California and Monroe County, and retired from the Fayetteville-Manlius School District. Helen is survived by a daughter, a son and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Verna Faulkner ’36.

Dorothy Kiola Williams Gantt ’41 of Arlington, Va., died March 11. During World War II, she worked as a secretary in the War Department, office of the quartermaster general, in Washington, D.C. In the summer of 1944, Dottie returned to Oswego and worked at the Emergency Refugee Shelter at Fort Ontario. Dottie retired from the U.S. Court of Military Appeals in 1972. She helped to establish the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics in 1982. She and her husband, Charlie, participated for 18 years, winning gold medals in dance, tennis and walking. Surviving are a son, two daughters, nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Howard Mumford ’46 of Fayetteville, Ga., died April 29. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Howard was a teacher, counselor, assistant principal and principal in the Atlanta Public Schools for 42 years. Surviving are his wife, Barbara; two daughters and five grandchildren.

Norman Gurley ’48 of Niagara Falls passed away April 18. He is survived by three children, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

William Jewett ’48 of St. Augustine, Fla., passed away Dec. 19, 2011. He was predeceased by his wife, Agnes, on Jan. 13, 2011.

Robert Sweet ’48 of Phoenix, Ariz., died July 9. In 1965, Bob founded Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix with 11 students and two classrooms. Today the company has 11 campuses across the country and more than 16,000 students. Bob retired from UTI in 1991. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; 10 children; and 18 grandchildren.

Betty Henderson Kenyon ’49 of Freeville passed away June 25. She earned a master’s degree at SUNY Cortland. She was an elementary school teacher and later a mathematics coordinator during her 41-year career, with the majority of it spent in the Groton Central School District. Betty retired in 1991. She is survived by two brothers, Bernie and Allen.

Elizabeth Kettel Vomacka ’49 of Largo, Fla., passed away April 12. Prior to raising her family, she taught third grade in Valley Stream. She returned to the workforce as a teaching assistant at Garden City Preschool, and went on to become a lead teacher in Nassau County’s first day care facility. Elizabeth then worked as a recertification classifier until she retired. Her husband, John ’49, predeceased her Feb. 8. Surviving are two sons, a daughter and a grandson.

John Vomacka ’49 of Largo, Fla., passed away Feb. 8. He served in the U.S. Army. John was an educator in the New York City Public School System for more than 25 years. John was survived by his wife, Elizabeth Kettel ’49, who passed away on April 12. Surviving are two sons, a daughter and a grandson.

Henri Floch ’50 of Phoenix, N.Y., passed away July 3. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Henri taught in the Phoenix Central School District for more than 38 years. He is survived by his wife, Doris Burkle ’52; three daughters; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

Leland Salsbury ’50 of Brewerton died Aug. 19. He served with the Army Air Force during World War II. Leland earned his master’s degree at New York University. He taught at Spring Valley High School and worked 38 years as an electrical engineer at General Electric. Surviving are his wife, Johanna; a son; three stepchildren; and four grandchildren.

Kenneth Jahelka ’52 of Melbourne Beach, Fla., died Feb. 13. He earned his master’s degree at Hofstra University. Kenneth worked in the Levittown Public School District for 30 years, beginning in 1957 as an industrial arts teacher. He retired in 1987 as the director of industrial arts and vocational education. Surviving are his wife, Mary Thomson ’52; three children, Judith Kur ’74, Laura Fleming, and Kenneth; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Arthur Rogers ’52 of Denver, Colo., passed away Sept. 3. He received his master’s degree from SUNY Buffalo in 1962. Arthur started his teaching career in Canastota from 1952 to 1954. He taught in Newark from 1954-1956. He taught in the Niagara Falls City School District from 1956 until his retirement. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude Rochelle ’54; two daughters; two sons; and five grandchildren.

Rosalyn Reeves Snow ’52 of Memphis, N.Y., died Aug. 17, 2010. She was a substitute teacher for many years in the West Genesee and Baldwinsville School Districts. She was co-owner of Snow’s Egg Farm in Warners. Rosalyn is survived by her husband, Gerald; a son; a daughter; and three grandchildren.

Margaret LeRoy Ellis ’53 of Oswego died Aug. 9. She taught in Baldwinsville for three years and was a substitute teacher in the Oswego City School District for more than 30 years. Surviving are two daughters; two sons; a sister, Marilyn Kindle ’52; a brother; and six grandchildren.

Henry Straub ’53 of Penn Yan died March 23, 2009. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Henry taught industrial arts at Penfield High School for 35 years. In retirement, he worked as a general contractor. Surviving are his wife, Clarinda; a son; a daughter; and two grandchildren.

Lyle Allen Boyce ’54 of Valatie died Feb. 15. He attended Syracuse University and The University at Buffalo, earning master’s degrees in school administration and special education and a doctorate in audiology. Al was instrumental in developing the program for the deaf in the Guilderland School District where he taught science and was department chair, and later became assistant principal of the Junior High School. From 1967 to 1999, Al served as superintendent of schools of the Menands School District. He is survived by his wife, Regina; three sons; a daughter; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Albert Skinner ’54 of Colorado Springs, Colo., died July 2. During the Korean War, Al served in the U.S. Naval Reserves and later spent two years on active Navy duty in the Mediterranean. He earned graduate degrees from Iliff School of Theology and Long Island University. Prior to seminary, Al was a social studies teacher and worked in the National Parks ministry. He was ordained in the United Methodist Church in 1966 and spent the majority of his ministry as a chaplain in the U.S. Army. Al served in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. He is survived by his wife, Ann; two daughters; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.

Doris Houser Tilton ’54 of North Syracuse died Dec. 18, 2011. Dorie taught in the North Syracuse School District for several years. She later embarked on a new career, working with deaf children, becoming an expert in sign language. Dorie was predeceased by her husband, Robert. Surviving are a son, a daughter and two grandsons.

Donald Thomasson ’57 of Elma died June 22. He is survived by his wife, Grace; three children; and four grandchildren.

Marguerite Gartrell ’58 of Oakdale died Feb. 16, 2011. She received a master’s degree from Hofstra University. Marguerite taught fourth grade at Timber Point Elementary School for more than 45 years.

Mary Lynn McDonald Sincebaugh ’58 of Orlando, Fla., passed away Jan. 4, 2012. She taught in Auburn and Florida for many years. She served on the Auburn Board of Education for several years. Surviving are her husband, Gerald; a son; a daughter; and three granddaughters.

Charles Sixour ’58 of Lenoir City, Tenn., died May 18. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; four daughters; 13 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Joan Tompkins Mattison ’60 of Newnan, Ga., passed away Aug. 20. She earned her master’s degree at SUNY Potsdam. She taught in the Ogdensburg City School District for 32 years. Surviving are her husband, George ’58, a daughter; a son; and five grandchildren.

David Weisenburger ’60 of Rome passed away Feb. 27. David taught industrial arts at Rome Free Academy. He retired in 1992, but remained active with Rome Free Academy as a substitute teacher. David is survived by his wife, Nancy; a daughter and three sons.

Eleanor House Cali ’61 of Oswego passed away June 6. She taught biology at Gates Chili High School until her move to Oswego. Ellie worked as a secretary at Oswego Catholic High School before taking a job at the Oswego Hospital Laboratory, a position she held for 25 years, rising to the position of county laboratory supervisor. In 1972, she and her husband, Michael ’63, opened Cali’s Carriage House Florist. Ellie is survived by her husband, two sons, a daughter and 12 grandchildren.

Bonnie Pritchard ’62 of Cazenovia died June 7. She taught kindergarten for 34 years in the Jamesville-Dewitt School District, retiring in 1996. Bonnie is survived by two sisters and a brother.

Vincent Savona ’63, M ’70 of Oswego passed away May 31. Vincent taught chemistry in Central Square and then at Oswego High School for 29 years. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Evangelist ’64, and two sons, Michael ’91 and Andrew ’94.

Paul Scheno ’63 of Pawleys Island, S.C., passed away Aug. 11. Paul was a teacher and reading specialist for more than 40 years. Surviving are his wife, Susan Roach ’63; two sons; and two grandchildren.

Marjorie Tyler ’63 of Hannibal died Aug. 1. She taught physical education and English at Hannibal High School. She retired as a typesetter and editor at the Brown Newspapers in Baldwinsville and had previously worked at The Palladium-Times, The Valley News and Red Creek Herald newspapers. Marjorie is survived by two brothers.

Donald Capron ’64 of Gilbert, Ariz., passed away July 14. He earned a master’s degree at the University of Vermont and an MBA from San Francisco State University. Don worked for Dansk International Designs as vice president of Western Regional Operations, and as vice president of Securities Analysis at Smith-Barney Securities. After retiring, he spent three years as an associate professor of business administration at the University of Massachusetts.

Edward Finnerty ’65 of Camden passed away Aug. 25. He also earned a master’s degree at Oswego. Ed taught in the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill School District for 13 years. He then worked for Harden Furniture for 25 years, retiring in 2005. He is survived by a sister, Joyce Seubert, and his aunt, Doris Brown Allen ’42.

Patricia Johnson Diehl ’66 of Rochester died Aug. 15, 2009. She began her career as an elementary teacher at Park Road Elementary in Pittsford and retired as a guidance counselor at Pittsford-Mendon High School. Patricia is survived by her husband, William; a daughter; and two grandchildren.

Russell Hasseler ’67 of Newark died Oct. 26, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Christine Doyle ’70; two sons; and two granddaughters.

Gail Goodman Wright ’71 of Hicksville died Aug. 29. She is survived by three children.

Mary Bucher ’74 of Canton passed away June 6. She earned master’s degrees from SUNY Albany and St. Lawrence University. Mary worked as a librarian at SUNY Canton for 35 years. She is survived by five brothers.

Bennie Lee Walker ’74 of Brookline, Mass., died July 17, 2011. He was a retired assistant headmaster at Snowden International High School. Surviving are three daughters, a son and three grandchildren.

Irene Goldman Gilman ’75 of Oswego passed away Aug. 17. She worked at the Oswego Hospital Mental Health Unit, was director of the New York state Migrant Head Start Program and most recently was a substitute teacher in the Oswego City School District. David Bennett ’77 of Kalispell, Mont., passed away June 20. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service as a forest firefighter, and was a member of the Inter-regional Hotshot crew. David is survived by his wife, Becky; two children; and three grandchildren.

Ruth Nolan Mulford ’77 of Ronkonkoma died Sept. 12. She was employed at Oswego County BOCES from 1970 to 2000, and had been the regional vice president for the Long Island/Metro region of the Association of Builders and Contractors since 2000.

Regina Whiteside ’79 of Syracuse died May 10. She earned a master’s degree in deaf education and sign language interpreting at Gallaudet University. Regina was an American Sign Language interpreter, taught sign language at Onondaga Community College for more than 20 years and was an elementary school teacher of the deaf.

Jonathan Russell ’80 of Albany died Sept. 7, 2011. He worked as an analyst/software engineer for several brokerage firms. Jon is survived by two children.

Joseph Klapkowski ’83 of Highland Falls died March 3. He was a financial analyst with Valley National Bank in New York City. Joseph is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth; two sons; and two daughters.

Chad Kelly ’05 of Fulton died July 23 at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar while doing contract work for the Department of Defense. Chad served with the U.S. Army from 2006 to 2010 and served in Iraq from August 2007 to October 2008. He was currently employed by MacAuley-Brown. Surviving are his parents, Herbert “Butch” and Donna, and his girlfriend, Lauren.

Edward McNally M ’05 of Syracuse passed away Oct. 20. He earned a bachelor’s degree at LeMoyne in 1988 and a master’s degree at St. Mary’s Seminary in 1995. Ed was formerly the chaplain at the Hall Newman Center.

J. Michael Adams, professor of technology at Oswego from 1972 to1984 passed away June 21. He was the president of Fairleigh Dickinson University for more than a decade before his retirement in May. He was the president of the International Association of University Presidents. While at Oswego, Michael earned the Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence. Michael earned his bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University, a master’s degree from the University of Illinois and his Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University. He is survived by his wife, Susan; two daughters; a son; and four grandchildren.

Edward Fellows ’42 of Palm Coast, Fla., died Dec. 17. He received his master’s degree from New York University. Following graduation, Ed worked for the U.S. Army Air Corps until he moved to Huntington. He taught industrial arts at Toaz Junior High School and supervised industrial arts and home economics department for District 3 until his retirement in 1977. Surviving are two sons, Robert ’73 and Donald; a daughter, Nancy; and eight grandchildren.

Stanley Segal ’42 of Oswego passed away Feb. 27. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. A child protective caseworker for Oswego County, he served as deputy commissioner, retiring in 1979. Stanley is survived by two daughters; a son; and four grandchildren, including Kristen ’09.

Richard Bardeschewski ’43 of Sandy Pond died Feb. 4. A veteran of World War II, he was a mechanic while stationed in the Philippines. He ran Bower Printing Co. until 1977. Surviving are his wife, Norma; three sons; two daughters; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Betty Reid Stevens ’43 of Copake died Feb. 5, 2011. She taught at the Roeliff Jansen School for more than 30 years. Betty was predeceased by her husband, James ’41. Surviving are a son, a daughter and four grandchildren.

Arthur Jones ’44 of Fulton died Feb. 2. Art served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering at Syracuse University. He was an engineer for General Electric for 26 years. Following his retirement, Art was assistant city engineer and commissioner of water and sanitation for the city of Fulton. He is survived by his wife, Janet.

Elizabeth “Pam” (Mead) McGlen Burgdorf ’46 of Fair Haven passed away Feb. 7. She taught in the Hannibal Central School District until she retired in 1979. Pam is survived by her husband, Charles; two daughters; a son; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Shirley O’Dell Sinclair ’50 of Rome died Feb. 22. She taught in the Rome City School District for 20 years. Shirley is survived by a daughter, two sons, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Robert Burnside ’51 of Watkins Glen died Jan. 2. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Bob worked briefly for Ingersoll-Rand and taught at Northside High School before accepting a position with the newly formed Xerox Corp. in Rochester. He later worked for Kodak. After retiring, Bob served as a Schuyler County legislator and a Town of Dix councilperson. Surviving are his wife, Beverly, and four sons.

Tatjana Gorin Fanelli ’51 of Bristol, Conn., passed away March 11. She is survived by her husband, Michael ’51, and three children.

Julanne Amidon Kieffer ’52 of Brantingham died April 6. She taught in Syracuse, Liverpool and Port Byron, and later ran her own nursery school. Judy is survived by her husband, John ’51; three daughters; a son; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Taylor Mandra ’52 of Atco, N.J., passed away March 14. Liz had been a teacher in the Rochester area, as well as an artist and writer. She is survived by her husband, Louis “Lindy” ’51; two daughters; a son; and three grandchildren.

Anthony Sommella ’53 of Yorktown, Va., died April 20. He also earned a master’s degree at Oswego. Tony served with the U.S. Air Force in World War II and the Korean War. He taught for 31 years at Estee Middle School in Gloversville. He was the Director of the Gloversville Adult Education Program for many years. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; three daughters; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Gerald Friends ’55 of Sodus Bay passed away June 18. Jerry served with the U.S. Coast Guard and began his career as a teacher in Cazenovia. He later returned to Oswego as the assistant dean of students. He went on to serve as guidance counselor and principal of Castleton-on-Hudson Elementary School in the Schodack Central School District. Jerry is survived by his wife, Barbara Hart ’53; three sons, Barry, Todd and John; and 11 grandchildren. William Alvut ’57 of Fairport passed away Oct. 10. He received a master’s of fine arts degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology and was a teacher for more than 20 years as well as a contractor and master carpenter. He is survived by his wife, Sue; a son; five daughters; and 12 grandchildren.

Joseph Crisafulli ’57 of Oswego died May 8, 2011. Prior to retiring, Joe had taught music at Oswego High School and previously on Long Island. He owned and operated the 1850 House Restaurant in Oswego for many years. He is survived by a brother.

William Johnson ’57 of Port Richey, Fla., passed away Dec. 6. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Fleming ’58.

Robert Maher ’57 of Rochester died Jan. 8. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Bob taught special education at Edison Tech for 36 years, retiring in 1992. Surviving are his wife, Patricia; two daughters; two sons; and five grandchildren.

Donald Wilcott ’57 of Redlands, Calif., passed away Nov. 9. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps. Don built a real estate and development business in California. He is survived by his wife, Sue, and a son.

John Buchanan ’58 of Westville Center died March 30. Jack continued his education at SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Plattsburgh. He taught industrial arts and driver’s education in the Salmon River Central School District from 1958 until his retirement in 1991. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth ’59; a daughter, Donna; three sons, Bruce, Brian ’86 and John; and five grandchildren.

Roy Mathison ’58 of Lindenhurst died Feb. 17. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Roy was a teacher and principal in the Lindenhurst district for 32 years, retiring in 1990. He served as a village trustee from 1988 to 1996 and as mayor from 1996 until 2000 when he retired from public office. Surviving are his wife, Gloria; two sons, Roy and Chris ’88; and a daughter, Karen.

Joseph Giambo ’60 of Altamont died March 14. Prior to his retirement, he was director of pupil personnel services in Schenectady. He had previously served as house principal at Farnsworth Middle School in Guilderland. Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Anne; three daughters; and six grandchildren.

Bernard Staub ’60 of Bradenton, Fla., died Nov. 3. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He earned a degree at the University of Florida and taught in the Liverpool School District.

Edward Garno ’61 of Lawrence, Mass., passed away Jan. 28. He earned a master’s degree at SUNY Albany. Ed was a teacher, principal and director of personnel for the Hudson School District before returning to his hometown to serve with the Oswego City School District, first as personnel director and later as superintendent of schools. Sharon McKane Rockhill ’67 of Port Kent passed away Nov. 21, 2010. She earned her master’s degree at SUNY Plattsburgh. She began teaching in the Salmon River Central School in 1967, and later took a position at Peru Central School, where she taught until her retirement in 1999. Sharon is survived by her husband, Gary; a daughter; a son; and three grandchildren.

Corinne Banton Hemstreet ’69 of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, passed away Dec. 23. After raising her family, she returned to Oswego to complete her bachelor’s degree. She taught in the Central Square School District. She completed a master’s degree and served as reading consultant and curriculum consultant before retiring in 1986. Corinne is survived by her husband, Robert; two daughters, Anne Burr and Maryellen Smith ’74; a son, Robert; and two grandchildren.

Gary Docteur ’72 of Tonawanda passed away Jan. 15. He was an assistant district manager of the Buffalo Social Security office. Surviving are his wife, Cynthia Castor ’72; a daughter, Nicole; and two brothers, Gerald and Kenneth ’65.

Wesley Proctor ’72 of Oswego died April 3. He worked at the James A. FitzPatrick power plant for more than 28 years, retiring in 2007. Wes is survived by his wife, Deborah; a son, a daughter; and a grandson.

Margaret Switzer ’75 of North Syracuse passed away March 2. She graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1942. Peg served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. She earned a master’s degree from SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome. John “Jack” Tyrie ’78 of Oswego passed away May 14. He taught social studies at Hannibal Central Schools for 33 years and had been an adjunct professor of education at Oswego since 2007. Jack served as an Oswego Town Council member and town supervisor. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Greene ’78; two daughters; a son; and three granddaughters.

Anthony Darcangelo ’80 of Rome died March 23. He received an associate’s degree from SUNY Canton in 1978. He was a customer service representative for Rome Strip Steel Co. for the 20 years and was a city of Rome councilman for the 6th Ward. Surviving are his wife, Shelley; a son; and his parents.

Frederick Potter ’80 of Haymarket, Va., died Feb. 18. Fred founded Information Resources, a company which evolved in to an alternative fuel powerhouse for global conferences, consulting and publications. He later sold the company to Hart Energy, where he continued to work as a consultant. He is survived by his wife, Michelle; three sons; a daughter; his mother; and sister, Ann Collins ’80.

Robert Fain ’95 of Irondequoit died Sept. 9. He received his master’s degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Rob worked in radio and television news in Syracuse, Ithaca, Elmira and Rochester as a broadcast journalist. He received an Emmy Award from the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences in 2006 for a documentary he produced while working as news director at WROC-TV in Rochester. Rob is survived by his wife, Lisa; a daughter; a stepson; and a grandson.

He spent his entire career in education in the Patchogue Medford School District, first as an industrial arts teacher, then as assistant principal and principal, and finally as assistant superintendent for personnel. Donna Capossela Johnson ’65 of Coshocton, Ohio, passed away Oct. 21. She earned her master’s degree at Ohio University. She began her teaching career at the Coshocton County Joint Vocational School District in 1980 and went on to become the adult education supervisor. Donna was named superintendent in 1999 and continued in that capacity until her retirement in 2007. She is survived by three children and eight grandchildren.

Nancy joined the Oswego faculty in Penfield Library in 1980 and served in various roles as the art department liaison, head of special collections and coordinator of library instruction. She was also an assistant professor in the women’s studies department. Her work earned her recognition with the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Librarianship. Nancy retired in 1998. She is survived by her partner of more than 40 years, Barbara Gerber, Distinguished Service Professor Emerita; daughter, Jean Ellen Osborne; stepdaughter, Jaime Gerber Baitsell ’91; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Brian Tancredi ’98 of Huntington died May 7. He is survived by his mother and three sisters.

James LeFlore, Professor Emeritus of Anthropology, died Jan. 3. He served with the U.S. Army in Hawaii. Jim earned his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate in anthropology at Syracuse University. He taught in Oswego’s anthropology department for 33 years, retiring in 2005. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia, of Oswego’s political science and communication studies departments; four daughters; a son; and 14 grandchildren.

Ernest Luongo, Professor Emeritus of Health and Physical Education, died Oct. 2. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He received his master’s degree at Cortland and his certificate of advanced study at Syracuse University. Ernie taught and coached baseball, soccer and basketball at Middleburgh Central Schools from 1953 to 1957. He taught at Oswego from 1957 until his retirement in 1985. Ernie coached the men’s varsity soccer team from 1957 to 1966. Surviving are two daughters, a son and five grandchildren. Donations in his memory may be made to the Ernest B. Owen Pittenger, Professor Emeritus of Psychology, died Nov. 19. He earned his doctorate at the University of Illinois. Owen taught at Oswego for 35 years. Surviving are his wife, Betty; five children, including Jeanette Kratz ’75; and grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

William Todd, Professor Emeritus of Technology died Dec. 21, 2011. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and spent two years of active duty with the Naval Reserves during the Korean War. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Eastern Kentucky University and his master’s degree at the University of Illinois. He taught industrial arts technology at Oswego for 30 years. Surviving two sons, Gary ’71 and David; daughters Doris, Marcia, Cheryl, Lisa and Susan; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Oris Cosselman Hildenbrand ’39 of Montrose passed away June 10. After receiving her teaching certificate, she began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse on the Tug Hill Plateau. Oris later earned her bachelor’s degree at Oswego and began a 25-year teaching career in the Irvington Public School District, retiring in 1980. She earned her master’s degree at Columbia University in 1962. Oris is survived by her daughter, Martha Scott, and two grandchildren.

Lucy Genoa Soukey ’39 of Fulton died June 14. She taught in the Fulton City School District from 1958 until her retirement in 1973. Lucy is survived by three sons, two daughters, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis ’40.

Margaret Yablonski Gawarecki ’40 of Rome passed away June 20. She taught in the Mexico and Boonville school districts. Surviving are two daughters, two sons, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Gordon Skinner ’40 of Walworth died May 17. He is survived by three daughters, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Scheele Valentine Ashby ’42 of Naples, Fla., passed away July 14. She earned a master of library science degree at St. John’s University. Mary was a school librarian in the Huntington Union Free School District. Surviving are her children, Robert and Terry Valentine, and JoAnne Powell ’68; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Charles Loschiavo ’42 of Tempe, Ariz., passed away Sept. 11. Charlie served with the Army Air Forces Band from 1942 to 1946. He also earned a master’s degree at Oswego. He taught English and journalism at Fairgrieve Junior High and Fulton High School, then at Oswego High School from 1957 to 1982. Surviving are his daughters, Meg and Christine; his sons, Joseph ’75, Thomas ’81, and Charles; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. He was predeceased by his brother, Angelo ’46.

Donald Henry ’43 of Pennellville died July 16. Don served with Patton’s Third Army during World War II. He taught industrial arts technology in the Ithaca School District for 34 years. Don is survived by his wife, Genevieve Walker ’42; five children; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Richard Enders ’48 of Hendersonville, N.C., died July 24. He served as a pilot with the Army Air Corps during World War II. Richard taught industrial arts technology in Baldwinsville for 30 years. In 1967, he was honored as New York State Teacher of the Year. Surviving are a son, a daughter, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

John Adams ’50 of Baldwinsville died Oct. 27, 2010. He served with the Army Air Force during World War II. John was a teacher and vice principal in the North Syracuse School District for more than 30 years, retiring in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Catherine; three daughters; two sons, including John ’72; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Glenn Thompson ’50 of Goodrich, Mich., died June 28. He had a long career as an educator, and retired as superintendent of the New York State School for the Blind. Glenn is survived by his wife, Patricia, and two sons.

Francis Eilers ’51 of Hudson Falls passed away Jan. 25. He is survived by three daughters and four grandchildren.

MaryAnn Hansen Hardy ’52 of Old Forge passed away Feb. 26. She taught for many years in the Rochester area. She and her husband spent most of their retirement years in Chapel Hill, N.C., where MaryAnn’s passion for learning led her to take classes through the Duke Institute for Learning in Retirement. Surviving are her husband, William ’52; a son; a daughter; and five grandchildren.

John Pauldine ’52 of Liverpool died Sept. 30, 2010. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. John taught industrial arts technology in the Liverpool Central School District for 35 years, retiring in 1989. He is survived by his wife, Jane; and a son, Timothy ’79.

Richard E. Truesdell ’52 of North Palm Beach, Fla., and formerly of Brooklyn and Garden City, N.Y., passed away Sept. 8. Before a 34-year career in public relations as a copywriter with Union Carbide and later Hill & Knowlton, Richard served in the U.S. Army with B Co., 3rd Battalion, Special Training Unit in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C., and the 384th and 67th AAA Gun Battalions at Fort Bliss, Texas. At his passing, Richard is survived by his wife, Rosemary Ryan ’52; three sons; two daughters-in-law; and three grandchildren.

Eleanor Kozak Slusarczyk ’54 of Prospect died June 15. She earned her master’s degree at Syracuse University. Ellye taught for 33 years in Syracuse, Whitesboro and Holland Patent. She founded the Prospect Free Library in 1969 and served as its first president of the board of trustees. She is survived by her husband, Stanley; five children; and two grandchildren.

James Ridgeway ’61 of Volney died June 26. He earned his master’s degree at Oswego and his CAS at Syracuse University. Jim taught at West Genesee Junior High School for 42 years. Surviving are his wife, Angel; a son; a daughter; and a grandson.

Peter Moses ’70 of North Syracuse passed away June 15. He earned his master’s degree at Oswego. Peter taught for a number of years at Lakeshore Elementary School. He started his own business, “Moses Antiques” and participated in antique shows throughout New York and New England. He is survived by his mother and two brothers.

Yvonne Kniskern ’71 of Cortland passed away June 23. She also earned her master’s degree at Oswego. Yvonne taught for 33 years in the Hancock and Windsor School Districts. She is survived by her husband, Donald.

Alan Angevine ’72 of Montgomery passed away May 12. He served in the Army during the Vietnam Era and the Air National Guard during the First Gulf War and after 9/11. He was a health and safety inspector for the New York Department of Labor. Surviving are his wife, Dolores; three children; and four grandchildren.

Robert Easter ’73 of Clayton died March 29. He taught industrial arts technology in Miami for a short time. He was employed as a marine mechanic at Chalks Marina and Boat Sales. Bob is survived by a son, Chris; and a brother.

William Peters ’73 of Harrisville passed away July 8. He earned a master’s at Oswego and master’s and doctoral degrees at Syracuse University. Bill was director of the Regional Education Center for Economic Development for the state Education Department until his retirement. Surviving are his wife, Mary Jo, and two sons.

Kenneth Dowd CAS ’78, M ’86 of Fulton died Aug. 22. He earned his associate’s degree from Onondaga Community College, a bachelor’s degree at SUNY Fredonia, a CAS from Oswego in 1978, a master’s degree in counseling from Oswego in 1986, a master’s degree from SUNY Buffalo, and a master’s in library science from Syracuse University. Ken taught in the Auburn and West Genesee School Districts. Prior to his retirement, he was a guidance counselor in the Oswego City School District. He is survived by his mother and a brother.

Andrew Philion ’82 of Queensbury passed away June 30, 2009. He was an assistant superintendent at Finch Pruyn. He is survived by his wife, Valerie; a son; a daughter; and a stepdaughter.

Kathleen Stevens Spring M ’88 of Liverpool died Aug. 12. She earned her bachelor’s degree from LeMoyne College. Kathleen taught English in the Liverpool School District for 20 years. She is survived by her husband, Jack; two sons; a daughter; seven grandchildren and a great granddaughter.

Peter Duttweiler M ’93 of Syracuse passed away Dec. 11, 2010. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Buffalo State College. Peter served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He is survived by his wife, Eileen.

Sara Pooler ’04 of Brooklyn passed away Aug. 14. She earned her master’s degree at Syracuse University. Sara had previously taught at John Dewey High School in Brooklyn and was most recently teaching at Murry Bergtraum High School in Manhattan. She is survived by her parents, Gary and Mary Pooler.

Frank Dunn, former associate professor of secondary education, died Oct. 14, 2010. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Buffalo State, his master’s from Columbia University and his Ed.D. from the University at Buffalo. Frank taught at Oswego from 1968 to 1972. Frank continued his career in education as the director of continuing education at SUNY Potsdam. He went on to become an administrator for school districts in Stamford, Conn., and Horseheads, retiring in 1992. Frank is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons, Geoffrey ’84 and David; and a granddaughter.

Jean Evans, former secretary in the history department, passed away June 22. Jean was employed at Oswego from 1981 until her retirement in 2006. Arcenia London, former visiting assistant professor and adjunct instructor of education, passed away Aug. 14. She earned her bachelor’s degree from AM&N College (now University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff), and her master’s and doctoral degrees from Syracuse University. She was an educator in the Syracuse City School District for 40 years. Arcenia is survived by her husband, Harlan; two sons; a daughter; and three grandchildren.

Oebele Van Dyk, emeritus professor of computer science, passed away May 31. He joined the Oswego faculty in 1966, and was a founder of the computer science department. He received his Ph.D. in 1970, writing a thesis entitled, “Computer Data Banks and Human Rights”. Oebele retired in 1985. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and a daughter.

Sadye Kosoff Kost ’30 of Rochester died Jan. 21 at the age of 101. She was a special education teacher in Rochester City Schools for more than 25 years. Sadye is survived by two sons, seven grandchildren, including Amy Kost ’82, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Maryan Watson ’32 of Elmira passed away June 25, 2009.

Hazel Dean Zbytniewski ’36 of West Branch passed away June 24. She taught for more than 50 years, including at West Leyden Central School and the Rome City School District. Hazel is survived by a son, a daughter, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Thomas Morrison ’42 of Newark died May 24. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, Tom opened a radio business, eventually adding television and appliances to the business. He retired in 1983. Surviving are his wife, Mary; two sons; and three grandchildren.

Lillian Tucker Davids ’46 of Morehead City, N.C., died Aug. 2.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond “Buck” ’46; three sons; four daughters; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Joseph Mondello ’49 of Kitty Hawk, N.C., passed away June 3. He served with the U.S. Marines during World War II. Joe earned a master’s degree at St. John’s College. He taught in Hauppauge Public Schools for many years,
retiring as principal of Pines Elementary School in 1979. Surviving are a daughter, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Catherine Kovac Muller ’49 of Fort Wayne, Ind., died Aug. 2. She had been a teacher in New York and Pennsylvania. Kay is survived by her husband, Richard; a son; and four grandchildren.

Coolidge Braley ’52 of Chestertown, N.Y., and Bradenton, Fla., passed away May 30. Prior to college, he served with the U.S. Army at the end of World War II. Coolidge earned a master’s degree at St. Lawrence University. He taught industrial arts and driver’s education at North Warren Central School from 1952 until his retirement in 1985. Surviving are his wife, Lois; two sons; two daughters; six grandchildren; and five great-grandsons.

Joseph Lomonico ’53 of Fair Lawn, N.J., passed away June 2, 2010. Joe served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps after graduation. He earned a master’s degree from Columbia University. He taught at Fair Lawn High School for 32 years. Joe also established the Fair Lawn Driving School in 1959 and it is still family-owned. He is survived by his wife, Inge Adler ’53; two daughters; a son; and seven grandchildren.

Mary Hilda Judge M ’54 of Florence, S.C., died May 15 at the age of 103. She received her bachelor’s degree from the College of
St. Rose. Hilda taught in the Onondaga School District and was a remedial reading consultant before retiring. She is survived by a son, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.

Harry King ’54 of Canton died July 26. He earned an associate’s degree at Canton A.T.I. and a master’s degree at St. Lawrence University. Prior to retiring, Harry taught at SUNY Canton. Surviving are three daughters and four grandchildren, including Samantha MacArthur ’08.

Anthony Romano ’54 of Camillus passed away Aug. 7. He served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War. Anthony earned an engineering degree from Syracuse University in 1968. He was employed at General Electric for more than 25 years. Surviving are his wife, Antoinette Solazzo ’55; three sons; a daughter; and 16 grandchildren.

Maureen Hartigan Cohn ’56 of Hammondsport died Aug. 8. She taught in Hammondsport Central School and was a guidance counselor in the Oswego area. Maureen is survived by two daughters, a grandson, two stepdaughters and two stepsons.

Janis Dexter Taylor M ’56 of Los Alamos, N.M., died April 16. She earned a bachelor’s degree at Oberlin College. She taught in Evanston, Ill., and Los Alamos. Jan is survived by her husband, Dean; a daughter; a son; and three grandchildren.

Arthur Cardinali ’57 of Falls Church, Va., passed away March 4, 2008. Among his survivors is his daughter, Lisa Cardinali Levine ’86.

George Gilmore ’59 of Hudson Falls passed away Sept. 14, 2009. He served with the U. S. Army Air Corps. George earned a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in 1950. In 1949, he co-founded B&G Equipment Co., a manufacturer of pest control. He went on to work in his family’s pest control business before deciding on a career in teaching. George taught industrial arts for 21 years at Hudson Falls Junior High School, retiring in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; two sons; and three grandsons, including Venance Akissi ’08.

Michael Rinko ’60 of New Hartford passed away May 13. He served with the U.S. Navy Reserves. Michael taught in Herkimer, Saratoga, Greenwich and Utica. He is survived by three brothers.

Richard Haug ’61 of Center Moriches died March 8, 2008. He is survived by four children and 10 grandchildren.

Alphonse Salerno ’62 of White Plains died Feb. 3. He served with the U.S. Army. Al taught in California and New Rochelle before opening Salerno’s Coach House Restaurant. He retired in 2005. Surviving are his wife, Jennie DiMatteo ’58; and a son.

Daniel Whitehead ’67 of Oswego passed away Aug. 19. He served with the U.S. Army. Dan taught at Emerson J. Dillon Middle School in Phoenix for 33 years. He is survived by his wife, Susan Dorgan ’65, two sons, and six grandchildren.

Mary Wiecha ’67, who taught English at Oswego, passed away May 4. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Wiecha, Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus, and three sons, Joseph ’77, Charles and John.

Joan Cserne Knapton ’68 of East Nassau died Aug. 28. She received her master’s degree from the University at Albany. Joan is survived by her husband, Dean ’68; two daughters, Amy Cornell ’91 and Cathy Sweeney; and four grandchildren.

Roy Potucek ’70 of Cato passed away May 31. Roy served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He taught industrial arts technology at Liverpool High School for 30 years, retiring in 2000. Surviving are his wife, Diane; a son and a grandson.

Robert Gresham ’71 of Warners passed away Aug. 15. He taught technology at Mexico High School, retiring in 2004. Surviving are his wife, Kathy; two daughters and one grandchild.

Curtis Toepp ’74 of Baldwinsville died July 29. He was employed with Anheuser-Busch for 28 years, retiring in 2008. He is survived by his wife, Barbara.

Daniel Tetro ’77 of Fulton died July 14. He owned Cavone’s Pizza Supply for 18 years. Dan is survived by three brothers.

David “Agarn” Crisafulli ’81 of Oswego passed away Sept. 23. He received his MBA from Syracuse University. Dave was an employee concerns manager with Constellation Energy. He recently published his own autobiography, Good Enough. He was a professional scout for Paramount Major League Baseball and a member of SUNY Oswego’s Baseball Hall of Fame. Thomas “Cody” Salsberg ’81 of Bay Shore died June 29. He retired after 20 years as a Nassau County police officer. He is survived by his longtime companion, Karen Clark.

Curt Van Cott ’88 of Commack passed away Sept. 4. He was a dentist in Middle Island. Curt is survived by his wife, Marianne; two daughters; and his father, Roy.

Joan Gibson, Associate Professor Emerita of Counseling and Psychological Services passed away May 31, 2010. She earned a bachelor’s degree at D’Youville College, master’s degrees at Canisius College and Buffalo State, and a Ph.D. at SUNY Buffalo. Joan is survived by her partner, Diane Johnson; her stepdaughter and her grandson.
