Bob Garrett ’83

A managing partner in the New York office since 2009, Garrett began his career with the Big 4 accounting firm in 1986 as a staff accountant and was elected to the partnership in 1996.

As managing partner, Garrett is responsible for overseeing the delivery of client service, driving cross-functional quality growth efforts, attracting and retaining key resources, and representing the firm and the New York office in the marketplace and community.

A David Rockefeller Fellow, Garrett serves on the Cardinal’s Committee on Charity and the Allendale Foundation for Educational Excellence board. He is also involved with the American Ireland Fund and Do It Garden State Volleyball Club.

He is a trustee for the KPMG Foundation and KPMG New York Foundation and serves on committees for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and New York State Society of CPAs. Garrett is also active with the RAND Center for Corporate Ethics and Governance and British-American Business.

Garrett has been active with the Oswego Alumni Association, hosting an office visit as part of the annual New York City Career Connections event that links alumni with current students.

Peter McCarthy ’82 is an attorney and partner at Cullen and Dykman, LLP. He is a member of The New York County Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, Brooklyn Bar Association and Bay Ridge Lawyers Association.

As a student at Oswego, he was involved with the Student Association and as a resident assistant. At Oswego, he double-majored in history, where he won the Goodwin prize, and political science. He earned a juris doctorate degree at Brooklyn Law School. Peter was one of the Class of 1982 Reunion Giving Committee chairs and in 1997 established the Daniel McCarthy Scholarship at Oswego, in memory of his brother Daniel, a victim of the 1988 Pan-Am Flight 103 Lockerbie air disaster. The scholarship gives Oswego students opportunities for studying abroad.
Peter and wife, Taryne McCarthy, have three children and reside in Bridgewater, N.J.

Colleen Murphy ’77 is president and CEO of Community Foundation of Collier County, a tax-exempt, public charitable fund, established in 1985 to increase and focus private philanthropy in the area. The foundation manages a pool of permanent endowed funds established by charitable individuals, and makes grants from the investment earnings to address community needs and issues. In addition, she is a certified public accountant.

Colleen graduated from Oswego with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She served on the Reunion Committee in 2002 and is an active participant at Oswego alumni events in Florida. As a student she was involved in synchronized swimming and the women’s swimming and diving team, an activity she continues to pursue today.

Colleen and her husband, Paul Skapura, reside in Naples, Fla.

Robert E. Moritz ’85, chairman and senior partner of the U.S. firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, has been named to the Oswego College Foundation Board of Directors. He will serve a term ending June 30, 2013.

Moritz was elected by PricewaterhouseCoopers’ U.S. partnership to serve a four-year term as chairman. Prior to that, he served as the assurance leader of the U.S. firm from 2006 to 2009; and from 2004 to 2006 was the managing partner of the New York office and Metro region.

He joined PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1985 and became a partner in 1995. From 1998 to 2001, he served as the Metro Regional financial services leader. From 2001 to 2004, he led the financial services audit and business advisory practice, which includes the banking, capital markets, insurance, investment management and real estate sectors.

Moritz served a three-year tour in PricewaterhouseCoopers – Tokyo, providing audit and advisory services to numerous European and U.S.-based financial services organizations operating in Japan.

He is certified by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of CPAs and the New Jersey State Society of CPAs. He is a member of the Atlantic Council; the Governing Board of the Center for Audit Quality and the Partnership for New York City.

Moritz has shared his expertise with Oswego students, including speaking in classes as part of the Oswego Alumni Association’s Alumni-In-Residence program.

He resides in Thornwood and has two children.
