Application Timeline

Refer to the calendar below to make sure your graduating high school student is doing all he or she can to prepare for the most rewarding college experience possible.

Summer (before senior year)

  • Schedule a visit. Oswego campus tours and admission interviews are conducted Monday through Friday throughout the summer. Just call for an appointment at 315.312.2250 or register on line at: http://www.oswego.edu/admissions/visit/
  • Keep a calendar of all admission programs and suggested deadlines.
  • Contact the athletic office if you wish to play a varsity sport at Oswego. A complete list of coaches and e-mail/phone numbers are available at: http://www.oswego.edu/athletics/contact.html
  • Register and prepare for the SAT and/or ACT tests. Oswego will accept either test, but we suggest that students take both. And if students take the SAT or ACT more than once, we’ll use the highest scores from any dates the exams were taken for admissions and scholarship consideration.

September (of senior year)

  • Meet with your counselor to discuss college plans and help finalize your college options. A SUNY Oswego application is available at your guidance office or online at: http://www.oswego.edu/admissions/undergraduate/freshmen/how_to_apply.html
  • Schedule any fall college visits and look for college fairs in your area. Oswego offers tours, interviews, group sessions, and open houses during this season. For details or to register, visit: http://www.oswego.edu/admissions/visit/.
  • Take SAT and/or ACT tests. Make sure your student's scores are sent to colleges of your choice. The Oswego SAT code is 2543 and the Oswego ACT code is 2942.

October

  • Start filing admissions applications for the colleges of your choice. Get a SUNY Oswego application at your high school guidance office, or online at http://www.oswego.edu/admissions/undergraduate/freshmen/how_to_apply.html. If your student definitely plans on attending Oswego, file an Early Decision application with all his or her credentials. The deadline for Early Decision applications is Nov. 15.

November

  • Review our September and October suggestions to make sure your college planning is on course for success.

December

  • Try to wrap up college applications before winter break. The first round of general acceptances is issued in January. Early Decision notifications are made in mid-December.

January

  • Regular admission decisions are issued this month.
  • Accepted Oswego Early Decision students should submit their Tuition and Housing deposits.
  • Begin filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Copies are available at your guidance office or go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.

February/ March

  • Scholarship decisions are issued, usually in mid-February. Your student's application for admission was also the application for scholarships. (No additional forms need to be filled out!)
  • If you have yet to apply for admission, time is running out, however, you can still submit an application at: http://www.oswego.edu/admissions/undergraduate/freshmen/how_to_apply.html
  • Spring visits can help make the college transition that much easier. In addition to general tours and interviews, Oswego also offers Admitted Student Departmental Programs. For details or to register, visit: http://www.oswego.edu/admissions/visit/
  • Make sure your FAFSA (financial aid application) is complete and submitted.

April

  • Financial aid award letters start going out this month. Read everything you receive carefully, as most of it will require action on your part.

Make a final decision, and mail your tuition and housing deposits by May 1 (or the special deadline provided on your acceptance letter).
