Q. If I'm sick when the Health Center is closed, how do I get my questions answered without going to the ER?
A. Now there is an after hours toll free number that students may call to talk to a Registered Nurse about their concerns. The number to call is:

How can you prevent Swine Flu?
- Washing your hands often with soap and warm water. Alcohol-based hand cleansers are also effective.
- Avoiding people who are ill.
- Staying home from work or school if you are sick.
- Using tissue when you cough, sneeze or spit, and dispose of the tissue in a covered trash bin.
- Keeping hands away from your face. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
- Cleaning shared space more often such as phone receivers, keyboards, steering wheels and office equipment.
- Refraining from sharing personal items such as forks, spoons, toothbrushes and towels.
Q. If my roommate or friend is sick, can I get her a sick tray from the dining hall?
A. Sick trays are avalilble from the dining halls and can be arranged for in the dining hall. If you are taking responsibility for picking up the sick tray, dining services asks that you come at the time you say you will come to preserve the safe temperature of the hot or cold food you will be delivering to the sick student. The menu for sick trays is the same menu as is posted for the day. Beverages for the sick individual may also be arranged for in the same way.
Q. What happens if I'm sick after the Health Center closes?
A. The campus is fortunate to have an BLS ambulance corp that is available by calling x5555 and asking for SAVAC to respond to your emergency. For after hours non-emergency concerns, FONEMED is available at 877-617 9538. A registered nurse will respond to your question and give you advice.
Q. How will I know if I can get the H1N1 Vaccine?
A. There is new information from the CDC and NYS Health Department every day about when and how this vaccine will be distributed. We hope that we will have access to this special vaccine by mid-October, but we have no assurance this will happen. We are working closely with Oswego County Health Department to keep current. Watch this website for further information.
Q. How do I get my IMMUNIZATION Record from Walker Health Center?

Q. Can I have medicines in my room?
A. Students take charge of any medication that comes from home and they may store those medicines in their rooms.
Q. Can I get allergy shots at Walker Health Center?
A. For $100.00 per year you may receive your allergy injection at Walker Health Center. You must provide the serum, current and up to date instructions and the date of your last injection. You must read and sign the protocol that will be your contract with us while you receive this service. Serum is refrigerated in Walker Health Center for your convenience.
Q. Will it cost me money to be seen at the Health Center?
A. The Mandatory Health Fee pays for the health care you receive at Walker Health Center during the current semester. Each semester that you pay this fee you are entitled to primary care at Walker Health Center. On occasion you may need a test, like a pap smear, for which we have arranged a very good price and we will ask you to pay us for the test; at month's end the Hospital Lab will send us the bill to pay. If you are a student in the Spring and are registered for the Fall and you are not taking summer school courses, you may be seen at Walker Health Center for a nominal fee.
Q. Does the Health Center take checks or credit cards as well as cash to pay for these occasional charges?
A. We take checks, credit cards and cash.

A. Yes there is! It's whealth@oswego.edu. Please remember that e-mail is not a secure medium so try not to write anything too personal when you write to us.
