Resident Assistant/Resident Mentor/Graduate Resident Mentor
Drop-in Discussion and Consultation Group
Group Meets: Wednesdays, 4 - 5 pm, starting 9/9/09 at
the Hart Hall Classroom; you may attend as many or as few of these groups
as you would like.
Being an RA/RM/GRM can be one of the most rewarding learning
experiences a student can have. The life of an Assistant/Mentor can also be
challenging and filled with multiple responsibilities as you balance: 1)
your need for an academic, personal, and social life, with 2) your job as a
role model, fellow student, friend, policy enforcer, mentor, and Department of
Residence Life and Housing employee.
Topics for discussion include:
- Mastering the fine art of being an RA/RM/GRM
- Dealing with challenging people, conflict, and unusual situations that may
occur on your floor
- Building your emotional RA/RM/GRM toolkit
- Receiving support for the personal feelings and conflicts that often arise
in daily student life
- Peer consultation and building upon experience
- Discussion about any topic you want, with an emphasis on finding solutions,
solving problems, and taking care of yourself in a non-judgmental atmosphere of
trust and support
This group is only open to students currently employed as RA's/RM's/GRM's in
the Department of Residence Life and Housing. You may attend as many or as few
of these groups as you would like.
Join us for a weekly discussion group as we work to attain balance in our
lives and personal satisfaction in our work.
