Final Self-Reflection Report Adam Holloway

EDU 506, Computer Applications & Resources in Teaching course was very helpful in that it helped me better understand computer applications and learn a new computer application, which is Microsoft FrontPage. Being a Technology teacher, the material I learned in this course will be very helpful in the courses I teach. Professor Yang’s allowance of choosing of our own topics for each activity was to great interest for using the material in my classroom. All of the activities I completed in the class, I will be able to use each one of them in my classroom and the after school club I participate in. This was a great element in the class, being able to choose your own topics for each activity that applies to your own classroom. Overall, I enjoyed the class and the information learned. This material I learned this semester in EDU 506 I will apply into my classroom.

Title: Microsoft Word- Lesson Plan on Measurement

Description: This is a lesson plan on English Standard of measurement. This lesson plan will be very helpful to any Technology teacher teaching middle school technology and any high school courses that learn this topic. Teaching this topic to middle school students is very hard. The best way I felt teaching this topic is relating it to money. Students seem to get a better grasp of the material by relating measurement to money. This topic is covered by standard five in the New York State Standards.

Reflection: This is an important topic to cover with students. If any student who wants to go into a trade, such as construction needs to know how to measure using a tape measure to be able to work in that trade. If a student does not grasp measurement then they will have a tough time in technology courses and any trade they choose to go into.

Title: Microsoft Excel- Robotics Team

Description: This is a spreadsheet that shows the students who are participating on the robotics team at my high school. This is a high school team that participates in the First Robotics program. The reason for this spreadsheet is categorize each student on which team they will be on for the robotics program.

Reflection: This very helpful using this spreadsheet knowing where each student needs to be at each meeting we have as a team. Having so many students on the team, this is very important to know, so we don’t have students fooling around and wasting time.

Title: Microsoft PowerPoint- Art & Technology

Description: This is a PowerPoint presentation that connects art and technology. This presentation would be for high school students. It shows how art and technology are connected in many ways. Many subject areas are connected and it is important as a teacher for you to show your students how they connect.

Reflection: This presentation was constructed because there were two art teachers and one technology (myself) teacher that worked on this presentation. Working on this presentation I learned many new topics and inventors. This was a fun and interesting presentation to put together. I did learn many new different PowerPoint features I did not know.

Title: Microsoft FrontPage- 3-Dimensional Drawing WebQuest

Description: This activity was to build a web site that presented a WebQuest. The WebQuest is on 3-dimensional drawings. Teaching middle school technology, technical drawing is an important unit to cover. This WebQuest is self-explanatory for students. This is an interactive way to cover a topic many students struggle with.

Reflection: Doing this activity, students will learn effectively on how to draw 3-dimensional drawings. This is a great activity that is on the web for students. Instead of the teacher presenting majority of the information, students are working on the Web in a interactive way for students to learn the topic. This is a great activity that I will use in my middle school classes.
