The Final Project!!!
(aka, emoADE e-commerce site)
Here's how it was. The making of a mecca, a place to go and search and buy an emotion or two.
It was designed and built by a motley crew, a disparate band of miscreants....wait, it was just Arlee, gloria, Jon, and I.
We wanted to make it a group effort, so we worked together on a lot of the elements. But we still each had specific jobs. Jon took over the site map and the CSS. Gloria was the (sketchy) artist. Arlee was the writer. I made the flow chart, scanned in sketches and notes, and printed and mounted the layer comps. I also floated around a lot, adding a line here and there in the product descriptions, checking for spelling and grammatical errors. (I was also going to make the process site, but then we realized we all had to do one). We all worked together to come up with the flavors, colors, the logo, the overall look and feel of the site.
There was a lot of discussion over the design, as some members were very adamant about what they wanted it to be, even if the rest of us didn't agree.
I've done a lot of group work over the years and have had to deal with some pretty crazy people. This group was not short on crazy! That's what happens when four stubborn and different people work together--but it was our choice, and we did have a lot of fun. I wanted to work more with CSS, but Jon took that over. Gloria is pretty much always the default artist and Arlee is great at writing smarm, so of course he would be the writer. I guess I became more of an editor and keeper-of-the-papers, the practical one--"When are we going to meet?", "This is what we need done for today, guys", etc. But I'm okay with that; somebody has to keep things in order.
Other than the loony group dynamics, I had a really great time coming up with flavors and the effects they would have on people. Also, learning about (and making) a flowchart and site map really helped in the creation of the layout of the site; it forced us to strip our concept down to the basic bones and to make everything easily accesible and functional to any potential visitors.
