My Hometown Project exhibition on display May 25 to June 16

Now in its second year, the My Hometown Project at SUNY Oswego's Tyler Art Gallery continues to provide public space for artwork by students in the Oswego City School District.

Opening May 25, with an artist reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 1, the exhibition will run until Saturday, June 16. For the exhibition, Tyler Art Gallery will be open noon to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

The work on display was selected by the SUNY Oswego art department, to represent each of the seven district schools: Charles E. Riley Elementary, Frederick Leighton Elementary, Fitzhugh Park Elementary, Kingsford Park Elementary, Minetto Elementary, Oswego Middle School and Oswego High School.

The work by these young artists form a picture of life in Oswego. The project goal is to showcase Oswego as a vibrant and creative community. Organizers hope this action empowers students to use visual art to tell their stories and create sites of public memory.

Works in the exhibition are under consideration to be displayed on banners around the city of Oswego in fall 2018, and again in spring and early summer 2019.
