Accomplished Oboist Nancy Ambrose King to kick off Ke-Nekt Series

Award winning oboist Nancy Ambrose King will launch the 2017-18 SUNY Oswego Ke-Nekt Chamber Music Series at 7:30p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in Sheldon Hall Ballroom.

Accomplished wind instrumentalist Trevor Jorgensen of the SUNY Oswego music faculty will host the visiting artist. Jorgensen will speak with King during a pre-concert talk and question-and-answer session at 7 p.m.

Jorgensen describes King as "one of the premiere oboists in the world." Attendees can look forward to hearing music from composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Darius Milhaud and many others, he said.

King will perform on both the piano and oboe. Jorgensen and a colleague from SUNY Potsdam will join her on clarinet and flute, respectively, for a clarinet trio with piano, Jorgensen said.

The American Record Guide called King "...a lovely player with a tone that surpasses that of most other American oboe soloists."

King, a music professor and chair of wind and percussion instruments at University of Michigan, won the Third New York International Competition for Solo Oboists in 1995. She has performed with the New York String Orchestra, and in such venues as Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, as well as settings in many countries. She also has recorded nine CDs for record companies such as Boston Records, Cala Records, Equilibrium, Naxos and Centaur Records.

The Ke-Nekt Chamber Music Series, sponsored by Artswego, the college's arts presentation organization, is devoted to connecting music students with professionals, according to Jorgensen. Student artists take advantage of a master class, giving them the opportunity to play alongside the featured musician and be critiqued by them, as well.

"We bring these people in to connect on multiple levels to our student body, our community by throwing a concert, and for the faculty to connect with a world-class musician," Jorgensen said.
