Artist Jacqueline Adamo to share work in 'Found Objects' exhibition

Syracuse artist Jacqueline Adamo will open an exhibition titled “Found Objects: New Works and Reinventions” at a free public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Oswego State Downtown.

Part of SUNY Oswego’s Downtown Artists Series, the exhibition will run through Oct. 28 at the branch of Tyler Art Gallery and the College Store at West First and Bridge streets. Seniors James Lucki Cooper, a creative writing major, and Amanda Adams, who majors in graphic design, will react to Adamo’s work in poetry and design, respectively.

Adamo, a Syracuse City School District teacher and private art instructor, said in an artist’s statement that her work for the exhibition is “a bit of this and a piece of that; fragments from my life and the lives of others.”

Working as an artist who has a fine arts degree and a master’s in cultural foundations of education from Syracuse University, Adamo said her work in crafts—needle work, sewing, knitting and crochet—has also influenced her art.

“I attempt to combine homespun craft with fine art elements and my training as a painter to explore the eclectic nature of myself and humans in general and the transformative aspects of shared experience,” Adamo wrote.

“We are patchworked and recycled, reinvented to change and transition from one life stage to the next,” Adamo’s artist’s statement noted. “Like my paintings and constructions, we are assisted and made complete by the scraps and remnants given to us through relationships and experience. Hopefully, in this way we move forward toward wisdom and piece of mind.”

The Canastota native works from a studio in Syracuse’s Delavan Center, and has had many exhibitions throughout Upstate New York.

Gallery hours at Oswego State Downtown are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays during Oswego Farmers’ Market, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. For more information about this exhibition, contact the SUNY Oswego art department at 315-312-2112.
