SUNY Oswego bachelor of fine arts candidates will present their work starting Tuesday, April 5, in the first of three semester-ending exhibitions aimed at showcasing senior art students’ finest work.

The first BFA show will run through April 20 in Penfield Library’s Tyler Art Gallery, with a free public reception for the artists from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 8, on the library’s second floor.

The second BFA display will take place April 26 through May 11 at Tyler Art Gallery, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the gallery.

Additionally, bachelor of arts candidates in art will have the opportunity to exhibit their work April 26 to May 11 in the display areas of the College Store’s Bookland and Artville locations along the main lobby of Hewitt Union. The reception is scheduled for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in the Hewitt lobby.

BFA candidate Thomas Pickett, an experimental artist who is a nontraditional student in graphic design exhibiting in the second group, said he is excited to show artwork created by floating screen-printing pigment in whole milk.

“The globules of (milk) fat move around and you get these really amorphous shapes,” said Pickett, who then photographs and prints the colorful forms. The artist also uses a Polaroid camera and instant film from the 1980s to produce design work.

“I work really closely with (art faculty member) Rebecca Mushtare, traditionally a web design and multimedia professor, but some of her practice is using design in a not-so-designy way,” Pickett said.

The opening BFA exhibition will feature the work of Troy Antinora, Benjamin Bradley, Justin Brown, Deborah Bushey, Emily Hinckley, Samantha Kaye, Kirstie Matice, Tarryn Morris, Briese Penaherrera, Amanda Perri, Elijah Vary and Brittney Wienecke. The students work in a variety of media, including illustration, drawing, photography, graphic design, printmaking and mixed media.

Joining Pickett in the second show are Kiley Barnaba, Joan Bristol, Kathryne Burke, Emily Floyd, Catherine Marcy, Daniel Seldes, Miranda Shaffer, Brandon Smith, Marissa Specioso, Darren Tomasulo, Timothy Wavercak and Jason Yard, who will display work in painting, animation, graphic design, photography, printmaking, 3D modeling and experimental art.

Tyler Art Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. Parking on the SUNY Oswego campus requires a permit; drivers without a current campus parking sticker can visit oswego.edu/parking for information on obtaining a $1 day-use permit.

Pickett’s work, utilizing a technique where screen printing pigment floats in whole milk in a petri dish, will join that of 24 other BFA candidates exhibiting from April 5 to 20 or April 26 to May 11 in Penfield Library’s Tyler Art Gallery. A third spring show, for bachelor of arts in art candidates, will take place from April 26 to May 11 in display cases of Hewitt’s main lobby.
