OSWEGO -- SUNY Oswego's 54th annual Juried Student Exhibition will take place Feb. 3 to 19 in Tyler Art Gallery as a showcase for works in a wide variety of artistic media that any of the college's students may submit.
The gallery will host a free public reception for the artists from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, in the recently renovated gallery in Tyler Hall. The awards presentation will take place at 6 p.m.
Two SUNY Oswego art alumni are jurors: Stephen Brucker, a glass artist and sculptor with a studio in Camillus, serves as a flame-working instructor at the Corning Museum of Glass studio, and Christopher Harrold of Troy, vice president and creative director of Mohawk Fine Papers, who has been published in a variety of industry journals, is a Lynda.com author and speaks extensively on the topic of printing and paper.
There are multiple prizes awarded in the exhibition, including the prestigious Presidential Purchase Awards, where selected student works become part of the college's permanent art collection.
Michael Flanagan, director of Tyler Art Gallery, said students made their entries digitally this year. "Having an online art submission process for the first time this year helped streamline the process for gallery, artists and jurors, and made it even easier for any interested student to submit artwork," he said.
Tyler Art Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays when the college is in session. Parking on campus requires a permit; visit oswego.edu/parking for information on obtaining a single-day permit.
