Engaging Creative Minds to offer kids interactive learning

SUNY Oswego’s Division of Extended Learning will offer the Engaging Creative Minds program for the second year, providing four full weeks of summer learning for children ages 7 to 11 and 11 to 14.

Courses will be held at G. Ray Bodley High School in Fulton the weeks of July 18 and July 25, and at the SUNY Oswego campus the weeks of Aug. 8 and Aug. 15.

Through the exploration of science, technology, engineering, the arts and math, students will dive behind the user level of popular and innovative technologies and be inspired to use their imagination to develop their own innovations. Skill sets such as beginning-level programming, scripting, logic statements, 3D design and the physics behind it all become tools the students use to accomplish their design.

Courses include Minecraft Designers, Minecraft Modders, Minecraft Animators, Make Your First 2D Video Game, Make Your First 3D Video Game, Lego Robotics - WeDoBots, Lego Robotics - Mindstorms, Lego Video Games, and Code Breakers. Each course is fun, student-driven and collaborative, according to Tammy Anderson of Extended Learning.

Each course costs $129 and runs for three hours per day for five days. Students who register for morning and afternoon courses in the same week will have a one-hour supervised break for lunch and active play.

Scholarships are available for Oswego County participants with financial need for up to two weeks at two courses per week. The second page of the printable registration form (Camp Fee Release of Information Request) must be completed to apply for this scholarship; it appears online at oswego.edu/creativeminds.
