Leadership Oswego County graduation, honors set for June 1

Leadership Oswego County, a program of the SUNY Oswego Office of Business and Community Relations, will hold graduation ceremonies for its class of 2016 at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, in Sheldon Hall ballroom on the SUNY Oswego campus.

This marks the 23rd year of the program, which teaches community trusteeship, leadership skills, current issues and networking to a diverse group of community residents.

Leadership Oswego County prepares a select group of county residents to become community leaders of the future. Each group embarks on a nine-month course of intensive study of leadership skills, Oswego County and its resources, current vital issues and visioning for the future.

Key community members teach participants the skills and convey the knowledge needed to be effective leaders. Graduates of the program are better prepared to serve the community in the roles of board member, citizen, employee or volunteer with organizations that serve Central New York.

This year, the program will honor three community members: Eric Bresee of Farnham Family Services will receive the Community Leadership Award; Atom Avery of Avery Rental Properties will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award; and Peg McKinstry, for her many contributions to the program, will receive the Friend of Leadership Oswego County Award.

The public is invited to congratulate Leadership Oswego County’s graduates and recognize the honorees. Tickets need to be purchased by May 27, and cost $35 per person, which includes dinner and a cash bar.
