The SUNY Oswego planetarium will preview the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing with programs at 7 p.m. every Sunday during November.

In advance of next year's 50th anniversary of the July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 moon landing, the free public November shows will include such topics as getting to the moon and going around it, the Apollo 7 and Apollo 8 missions and the precession (changes in rotational axis) of Earth.

Sunday shows take place through June with changing topics each month in the state-of-the-art facility on the second floor of the Richard S. Shineman Center for Science, Engineering and Innovation.

The planetarium has limited seating, so guests are encouraged to arrive a bit early. Shows are recommended for children ages 4 and older. Children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult. No food or drink is permitted in the facility.

Parking is free in the commuter lot off Washington Boulevard and the employee lot off Centennial Boulevard across from Shineman Center.

Celebrating exploration -- November's Sunday shows at SUNY Oswego's planetarium will look at the upcoming 50th anniversary (July 20, 1969) of the moon landing, including details about the 1968 launch of the Apollo 8 spacecraft (shown here in a NASA computer simulation), which was the first manned craft to orbit the moon. The free public shows will begin at 7 p.m. each Sunday, with programs changing on a monthly basis. (NASA image)
