SUNY Oswego art faculty member Christopher McEvoy will exhibit his latest paintings from Oct. 27 to Nov. 12 in Tyler Art Gallery on campus.

The artist's reception for "Christopher McEvoy: New Work" will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, in Tyler Hall's rejuvenated lobby and adjacent gallery.

This exhibition continues an art department policy to support the creative work of art faculty by giving them the opportunity for a solo exhibition in Tyler Art Gallery after returning from sabbatical leave. McEvoy was on sabbatical in fall 2016.

McEvoy is primarily an abstract painter. His work observes and manipulates organic forms and systems through various modes of abstraction, according to an artist's statement. In his recent work, the act of painting and assemblage document the struggle between his interior and exterior world, the visceral and personal as it relates to the physicality of existence. McEvoy's process involves generating imagery through drawing, photography, digital manipulation and collage. The resulting images become the basis for an extended painting process.

Creating paintings out of a desire to explore visual phenomena as an intersection of place and cumulative experience, McEvoy is interested in the contrast of materiality and presence with the fluid nature of memory and the constant layering of information and imagery humans experience daily.

McEvoy, who holds a master of fine arts degree from Boston University, has had his work displayed at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center in Auburn, at venues from Boston to Denver and in many other solo, two-person and group exhibitions.
