The portfolio work of 23 SUNY Oswego bachelor of fine arts degree candidates will greet visitors to Tyler Art Gallery for two spring BFA exhibitions.

BFA Exhibition I will run April 23 to 30. A free public reception for the 12 student artists will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, in the gallery and Tyler Hall's lobby.

In that exhibition are Kim Campbell of Scipio Center; Morgan Ciccarino, Vestal; Scott Cole, Cicero; Liv Cosgrove, Goshen; Julie Farquhar, Lowville; Rachel Futterman, Vestal; Zach Jocz, Clay; Tara Lagoe, Oswego; Kayla Matthews, Rochester; Arden McBride, East Syracuse; Benjamin Roeland, Newark; and Ciara Tobin, Clifton Park.

A graphic design major, Farquhar has worked on a brand identity project called "Boozy Smoothies." She has produced a sign with a carefully hand-drawn font for the fictitious business name, a large menu board, several menus, T-shirts, a cap, stickers and a cup.

"I kind of stumbled on the idea by accident," said the Lowville resident. "Friends and I were talking about moving to California, wondering what it would be like to kind of leave our lives behind. We talked about boozy smoothies. The more we started joking about it, I started having a vision in my head."

Now, having worked on their projects the full year, Farquhar and her fellow exhibitors are nearing the finish line for both projects and their undergraduate years. The exhibitions help students fulfill a requirement for the work they will have completed in the intensive bachelor of fine arts programs at SUNY Oswego.

The spring BFA Exhibition II will feature the work of another 11 degree candidates, running May 7 to 15. The free public reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 10.

Exhibitors are Ariana Dzibela of Carmel; Nicole Frisbie, Saugerties; Courtney Hall, Lyons; Tyler Hoag, Queensbury; Shelby LaGray-Masters, Utica; Rasheda McLean, Bronx; Seth Rogers Miller, Fulton; Eugene M Petrie Jr., North Syracuse; Catalina E Penailillo, Dix Hills; Stephanie N. Ulakovic, Hamlin; and Liberty Yalch, Sandy Creek.

Tyler Art Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 10:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday.  The gallery is closed Mondays, school holidays and SUNY Oswego breaks.

Candidates for the bachelor of arts degree in art may also take part in an exhibition, set to run May 7 to 15 in Penfield Library. The reception will run concurrent with BFA II, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Tyler Hall lobby.

Exhibitors include Matthew Bullard, Stephanie Conley, Samantha Flavell, Dominique Lockwood, Ivana Maldonado, Ceseley Mulligan and Ian Saunders.
