Function
Scales Hall was the last of four residence halls built on the lakefront area of campus, and opened in 1961. It houses 200 students in coed style living and provides a 24-hour study room, computer lab and recreation room.
Namesake
Dedicated in 1961, Scales Hall was named in honor of Caroline L.G. Scales. Scales was an alumna of Oswego Normal School and taught there from 1884 to 1926. As an educator, Scales taught English Literature, history, composition and rhetoric. In addition to her education duties, Scales served as the preceptor at the Welland dormitory for Women from 1887 to 1906.
