Marano Ice Arena
With ice hockey season upon us, the SUNY Oswego campus will once again pack into the ice arena and convocation center, located at the west end of Marano Campus Center (MCC). From pregame introductions to fist bumping Zamboni drivers between periods, fans make sure to get the most out of every game. The arena is utilized by other groups on campus, ranging from club hockey and Campus Recreation, to the competitive figure skating team and open skating. Use of the space extends beyond on-ice events, with a floor that can be laid over the ice. This allows it to be used as a convocation center for events such as graduations and the annual OzFest concert. The arena also housed the fall media summit in 2014 and the Del Sarte student dance group’s spring performance in 2015.
“My favorite part last year was when we would shut the lights down before every game. Players were introduced with spotlights and the fans were going crazy. Then the lights would come up, the national anthem would start and everyone in the house was ready to rock’n’roll.” - Bill Hammond, ice arena general mechanic and Zamboni driver
