Note: If you do not need assistance with identifying a placement or are opting for an alternative assignment in lieu of field experience, please indicate this in the Notes section of the TK20 or Google Docs application so that the Clinical Practice and Partnerships Office knows of your plans and needs. Contact the instructor of record to learn more about the alternative assignment.
Your completed application:
- is mandatory so you can attend a clinical experience
- is mandatory even if you are not planning on a field experience placement but are registered for a CTE field experience course
- is necessary even if you will not need assistance in locating a placement site
- allows you to indicate all pertinent information so the CPP Office knows if you need assistance in locating a placement for you
- allows you to indicate whether or not you plan on doing a field experience placement, an alternative assignment in lieu of a field experience placement, or an in-service placement (for full-time employed teachers teaching in their area of concentration)
Do I complete a placement or an alternative assignment?
Traditional CTE candidates enrolled in a program leading towards teacher licensure will be responsible for completing the required embedded field experiences each semester they are registered for a course with an embedded field experience.
In-service CTE candidates who are teaching in a PreK-12 grade school setting or BOCES in the area in which they are seeking certification will be responsible for completing the alternative assignment each semester they are registered for a course with an embedded field experience.
Non-matriculated or Non-degree students who are registered for a CTE course with an embedded field experience can complete the field experience with a CTE teacher or the alternative assignment.
Practicum Log
While at your placement, you must maintain a Practicum Log that is signed by the cooperating teacher and/or advisor at the end of each visit. All candidates will be responsible for submitting a practicum log at the end of the course. The practicum log should be completed and submitted to your course instructor at the end of each course. In addition, all candidates will be responsible for submitting the completed log(s) with the required CTE student teaching application.
Candidates are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours of clinical experience or the required alternative assignments before they are eligible for student teaching.
