The Blackfriars student honors theatre organization will bring comedy to campus this week for its admission-free production of “5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche,” with 7 p.m. showtimes Thursday, March 27, through Sunday, March 30 in Tyler Hall’s lab theatre.

The 1950s-stylized performance that invites audience participation came about when Blackfriars “realized that all of the theatre performances for this year were extremely heavy and very emotional,” said Elizabeth Mann, who directs the production.

“We thought that adding a comedy show in the mix would be a great addition, especially since all of the parts in ‘5LEQ’ are feminine-presenting,” Mann explained. “An entire female cast is extremely rare, and I thought this would fit in great with the production of ‘Tuck Everlasting’ that's currently happening as well.”

Mann described the premise as: “When a nuclear bomb traps five merry widows inside a community center, secrets are revealed, identities are discovered, and -- most importantly of all -- quiche is eaten. Will they survive nuclear fallout? Or will the lack of egg be their doom?"

The small cast, Ariana Palmer, Elliot Carrick, Kamdyn Miller, Artemis Doyle and Emma Marshall, have been rehearsing since early February for the show that will run around 75 minutes.

“I am extremely fortunate that my design and production team are all so incredibly talented and hard working. As a fully student-produced show, that kind of determination is so important,” Mann noted.

Though it will be much different than a traditional presentation, Mann expects it to entertain audiences, especially ones with a healthy sense of humor.

“People should expect a lot of laughter, a lot of craziness, some loud noises, and the high likelihood of being made fun of at some point by the actors,” Mann said.

While admission is free, advance ticket reservations are strongly encouraged by visiting the Blackfriars ticket website.
