The Hubert B. Smith Diversity Scholarship will be awarded to up to four students for the next academic year, 2024-2025. Each recipient will receive a minimum of $1,000.

This award honors Hubert B. Smith, retired assistant provost and director of the Office of Learning Support (now the Office of Learning Services), for his many years of service in the promotion of human diversity and academic excellence at SUNY Oswego.

To be eligible to apply for this award, students must:

  1. Have earned a minimum of 27 credit hours (sophomore or junior standing). Transfer credits are accepted, however, the student must have attended SUNY Oswego for at least two semesters;
  2. Have a minimum SUNY Oswego GPA of 3.0.
  3. Be attending SUNY Oswego next academic year (2024-2025); graduating seniors this May and August are not eligible.
  4. Demonstrate good character and integrity.
  5. Have a history of service to SUNY Oswego or the Oswego community.
  6. Demonstrate how the student has contributed to the human/cultural diversity of the campus or the Oswego community.

The scholarship selection group asks for faculty/staff nominations of students who meet the above qualifications. Nominated students who meet the criteria will then be asked to provide additional information to support their candidacy for the award.
