With the college moving to remote instruction and other changes during this time, staff of the Counseling Services Center are working remotely but still aiming to offer the critical services they provide in person.

The office reached out to those with existing appointments to facilitate services, with additional information for those who need services as follows:

  • Students interested in scheduling or rescheduling an appointment should listen carefully to the voicemail message at any time by calling 315-312-4416
  • Students who are in crisis can be passed along to a counselor during regular crisis hours (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m.) by calling 315-341-4968

  • Students who are in crisis, after hours or on weekends, can call 315-312-4416 and select option 2 to be passed through to a counselor

  • Anybody with a life-threatening emergency should call 911 or local emergency services

  • Those interested in events, activities and self-care tips can follow Counseling Services on Instagram: @mindful_oz

  • Counselors will call from blocked numbers, so those seeking services are asked in this instance to accept calls from "No Caller ID"

  • Students also can connect with Counseling Services on Discord, where counselors are creating an online space to gain a sense of community during an isolating time. They are using the platform to promote connection, hold self-care events, share resources and offer a space to talk to others. This is free, but not to be considered confidential. Participants should not share this link with anyone outside of the SUNY Oswego community.

Trying to maintain critical services while “moving an entire department online isn't a simple task,” said Kate Wolfe-Lyga, director of the Counseling Services Center.  “Therefore we anticipate the need to be flexible as we learn more and identify new options to improve our services.”
