In support of climate justice goals and the "Zonta Says NOW" campaign, Zonta Club of Oswego and the university's CSTEP (Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program) are co-hosting "Fabricating Change: Converting Textile Waste into Valuable Materials & Understanding the Consequences of Apparel Manufacturing" on April 29 at 5:30 p.m in 122 Shineman Center.
This event is free and open to the public, with parking available in Lot 8 (on the south side of the Shineman Center).
Organizers expect an insightful lecture and discussion with Juan Hinestroza, the Rebecca Q Morgan '60 Professor of Fiber Science and Apparel Design and the interim chair of human-centered design for Cornell University's School of Human Ecology.
Hinestroza will discuss the direct impact of textiles and apparel manufacturing and the conversion of textile waste into raw materials for other manufacturing processes.
In support of Zonta International’s “Zonta Says NOW” commitment to gender-equal climate action, Hinestroza will also share personal stories and observations of the textile manufacturing field’s impact on the environment and people.
Zonta International's mission is to envision a world where every woman can achieve her full potential, has access to all resources, is represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men, and lives without fear of violence. By taking gender-equal climate action now, they hope to keep this vision alive. Learn more at https://www.zonta.org/zontasaysnow
