A world-wide health crisis and the resulting economic turmoil have caused individuals to take a new look at their estate and financial planning, including the charitable aspects of that planning.

More than half of people 55 or older in the United States haven’t created a will or the other key estate planning documents that they might need during the pandemic, according to Caring.com

But help is available via a free estate planning webinar, hosted by SUNY Albany, from 2 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28.

Attorney and CPA Martin S. Finn, a founding partner at Lavelle & Finn in Albany, will review the essential estate planning strategies that every individual needs to consider in these trying times. Specific focus will be placed on recent legislation, including the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the SECURE Act and the CARES Act, and their impact on the choice of proper planning strategies.

Finn will share his expertise in such areas as maximizing wealth and retirement income, personal and corporate tax planning, business counseling, estate and business succession planning and elder law services.

Questions and answers will follow, as time permits. SUNY Oswego participants can also follow up with college staff by emailing sheldonlegacy@oswego.edu or calling 315-312-3003.

While open to all SUNY college communities, including SUNY Oswego, participants will register online through SUNY Albany.

The webinar is presented by the SUNY Blended Gifts Council.
