The popular Sheldon Institute summer camp, running July 22 to 26 and July 29 to Aug. 2 this year, in search of creative instructors to inspire learning for students entering grades 2 through 10.

Organizers are looking for teachers, experts and enthusiasts to work with the students and provide courses of the instructor's choice. The institute is not just looking for the typical educational curriculum, but courses where instructors might have a special talent and passion to share with participants.

Whether an expert pickleball player or crafter, or a person who knows how to play an assortment of board games that that youth would enjoy learning how to play, or who can make fun and engaging science experiments, or an excellent cook and would like to teach our youth how to make a pie or different types of cookies -- Sheldon Institute organizers are looking for these kinds of interesting and enthusiastic instructors. The more creative, the better.

Organizers are looking for teachers to teach for one or both weeks. Teachers working with elementary-age students (second through fifth grade) will be with their students from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., and should have a themed curriculum for the week. Teachers working with grades six through 10 will have 1.5-hour blocks and can choose to work between one and four blocks each day.

The compensation is $30 an hour. If interested, email summeryouthprogram@oswego.edu with the following information:

  • Your name and phone number
  • The title of your curriculum
  • The ages you are willing to work with (grades 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-10)
  • A description of what you plan to teach
  • An estimate of the supply cost per child

Those seeking more information can reach out to Chelsea Ginett, youth summer program manager, at summeryouthprogram@oswego.edu.
