On Friday, Dec. 2, from 8:30 to 11 p.m., Student Orientation and Family Engagement will host a special Late Night meal, a breakfast that is open to all students in Lakeside and Pathfinder Dining Centers. In addition to the meal, there will be live DJs at both locations as well as a special giveaway to each student who walks through the door.

The Late Night Breakfast is open to all students, thanks to a partnership with Auxiliary Services. It started when Justin Dickerson, director of Student Orientation and Family Engagement, contacted Auxiliary Services with a proposal.

“When Justin first approached Dan Siddons and I about this, we felt we needed to open it to the campus and the best way to do this was to make sure students who do not have a meal plan have access to attend and enjoy this,” said Steve McAfee, executive director of Auxiliary Services and assistant vice president of Student Affairs. “Auxiliary Services is proud to be a part of this event and sponsor it as a food secure event through our program grant and allow any student access.”

The collaboration with Auxiliary Services has also allowed the event to be more sustainable. “We decided that, like the opening picnic, we needed to make this a sustainable event,” McAfee said. “We will be using compostable plates and utensils as well as a take-away aluminum beverage cup. This will allow students to come and sit down or take it with them.”

Over 30 faculty and staff members from all across the campus have come together to volunteer to serve the meal to students and celebrate their accomplishment of completing their fall semester coursework and preparing for their final examinations.

“We were overwhelmed by the number of staff and faculty volunteers,” Dickerson said.

“I’m excited to volunteer at this event and celebrate the success of our students throughout this semester,” said Gabriel Marshall, associate vice president of Student Affairs and one of the evening’s volunteers. “I can’t wait to hear about how they are preparing for finals this year and to wish them well.”

Our student community is what makes this place so special,” said Dan Roberts, director of Student Engagement and Leadership, and another volunteer. “We are all a bit sad when our students go home for break, so I’m excited to show our students how much we appreciate them”

This event was made possible by a grant awarded by Auxiliary Services. Student Orientation and Family Engagement thanks the Auxiliary Services Board for their consideration and support of this student initiative.
