Penfield Library is hosting two faculty award winners at a Faculty Research Sharing Event today (April 11) at 3:30 pm in Penfield 215.

This thought-provoking hour will feature esteemed SUNY Oswego faculty members Roberta Hurtado and Rasika Churchill as they share highlights and insights into their respective research activities. All members of the campus community are invited and encouraged to attend what is expected to be an engaging event.

Roberta Hurtado is associate professor of Latina/e/o/x literature and culture at SUNY Oswego. Her research interests focus on Latina decolonial feminisms, with an emphasis in Puerto Rican women’s literature, epigenetics and trauma studies.

She has published in journals such as Chiricú, Label Me Latina/o, and Diálogo, and the anthology #MeToo and Literary Studies. Her book, "Decolonial Puerto Rican Women’s Writings: Subversion in the Flesh," was published in 2019 as part of Palgrave Macmillan “Literature of the Americas” series and was the 2020 silver medalist for the International Latino Book Awards. Her current projects include a manuscript entitled "But is it Sexy? Decolonial Erotic Aesthetics in Puerto Rican Women’s Literature." Professor Hurtado is the 2021 recipient of the Provost’s Award for Scholarly and Creative Activity.

Rasika Churchill is an assistant professor of mathematics at SUNY Oswego. She received her Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of South Florida. She teaches a wide range of mathematics courses, including applied math courses like "Engineering Mathematics" and pure math courses, like "Abstract Algebra." Her research interests lie mainly in Knot Theory, a branch of mathematics that is highly visual and doesn’t require countless technicalities and jargon to understand. She also has an interest in financial mathematics and actuarial science. Professor Churchill is the 2022 recipient of the Provost's Award for Scholarly and Creative Activity.
